UNH improves to 5-0-3 over their last eight games

BALTIMORE, Md. – Four different Wildcats scored as the No. 24 University of New Hampshire men's soccer team defeated UMBC, 4-1, at Retriever Soccer Park on Saturday evening in America East action.

The Wildcats are now 5-0-3 over their last eight games.

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 7-1-4 (1-0-3 America East), while the Retrievers fall to 6-3-3 (2-1-1 America East).

The Wildcats return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 17, when they take on No. 18 Hofstra at Wildcat Stadium at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month as the game will be Real 'Cats Wear Pink presented by Mass General Brigham as Pink Pom Poms will be given out at the match. The team will be spreading awareness of Metastatic Breast Cancer at the game. There will be a 50/50 raffle to raise funds for Stage 4 Metastatic breast cancer research. This form of breast cancer can be treated, but there is NO CURE. People who are diagnosed with MBC will remain in treatment for the remainder of their lives. While more and more people have taken up the cry for more stage 4 research, it remains the least funded form of breast cancer. Proceeds of the raffle will be donated to METAvivor.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Graduate student Joseba Incera (Santurtzi, Spain) started off the game by making an outstanding diving saves off a shot by Giuseppe Indelicato in the seventh minute.
The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the 60th minute (59:02) when graduate student Bilal Kamal (London, England) stole the ball, faked out the defender and then blasted a shot from the 18-yard box to upper left corner of the net.
The Retrievers then responded to tie the game at 1-1 when Taylor Calheira found the back of the net in the 62nd minute (61:58).
But the Wildcats would go on to score three straight goals for the 4-1 win.
Sophomore Taig Healy (South Hampton, N.H.) sent a pass to freshman Austin Bush (Southampton, Mass.) who knocked the ball past the charging goalkeeper in the 75th minute (74:02).
Then Healy fired a shot from 15 yards out to the lower right side of the net in the 77th minute (76:04) to increase the lead to 3-1.
Finally graduate student Georgios Koliniatis (Athens, Greece) deflected a clear attempt by the goalkeeper and then scored to make it a 4-1 game in the 80th minute (79:25).

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

UNH outshot UMBC, 19-14, while the Wildcats took 11 shots on goal and the Retrievers had five.
The Wildcats attempted four corner kicks while the Retrievers took two.
Incera made four saves, while Emigdio Lopez posted seven saves for UMBC.
