Home Opener is Sept. 16 against Dartmouth for the Granite Bowl
DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire football team, under the leadership of 2022 CAA and ECAC Coach of the Year Rick Santos, will kick off the 2023 season Sept. 2 at Stonehill College and play the first of five home games Sept. 16 against Dartmouth College. The announcement was made Tuesday in conjunction with the release of the 2023 CAA Football schedule.
"We are proud of what we accomplished in 2022, getting back to national prominence and returning to the NCAA playoffs, but we aren't satisfied," Santos said. "We once again have a tough schedule in 2023, including home rivalry games against Dartmouth and Maine, but we are working hard every day and will be prepared for the weekly grind that awaits us."

In Week 2, the Wildcats travel to Mount Pleasant, Michigan to face FBS school Central Michigan University on Sept. 9.
New Hampshire welcomes Dartmouth College to Wildcat Stadium on Sept. 16 for the 42nd meeting of these intrastate rivals; UNH won the 2022 Granite Bowl with a 14-0 road win. The 'Cats begin defense of their CAA crown Sept. 23 at the University of Delaware, a team that advanced to the 2022 NCAA second round and finished with a No. 19/24 ranking.
UNH and Towson University will tussle on the gridiron for the third consecutive year in 2023 when the Tigers come to Durham for a Sept. 30 matchup. Dylan Laube electrified the fans last September at Towson with a school record-tying 92-yard punt return for a touchdown.
Following an open week, the Wildcats return to action Oct. 14 against UAlbany at Wildcat Stadium. These programs have squared off every year since the Great Danes joined the CAA in the 2013 season.
New Hampshire closes October with back-to-back road games at Stony Brook University (Oct. 21) and the University of Rhode Island (Oct. 28).
UNH takes on Villanova University at Wildcat Stadium on Nov. 4 in the first matchup between these programs since a 2019 tilt (also at Wildcat Stadium).
The 'Cats make their first ever trip to Monmouth University on Nov. 11. The Hawks were first-year CAA members in 2022 and played UNH in their first conference game.
The Wildcats end the 2023 regular season Nov. 18 with a Buffalo Wild Wings Border Battle against longtime rival University of Maine. New Hampshire reclaimed the Brice-Cowell Musket this past November with a 42-41 overtime road win that sent the Wildcats into the FCS tournament.
Game times and a full promotional calendar for the 2023 season will be announced at a later date.
In the 2022 season, New Hampshire won a share of the CAA title with a 7-1 conference record and advanced to the NCAA second round to highlight a highly-successful season that ended with a 9-4 overall record and No. 13/15 national ranking. The Wildcat trio of Laube, Josiah Silver and Dylan Ruiz received a combined total of 13 All-America accolades in 2022.
CAA Football expands to 15 teams in 2023 with the addition of Campbell and North Carolina A&T. The conference schedule includes four home games and four road contests for each team. Under the league's new scheduling format, each team is paired with two permanent partners that it faces every season. The other six conference opponents rotate through the schedule, ensuring that all teams meet each other at least one at home and on the road in an eight-year period.
