DURHAM, N.H. – Graduate back Nils Buchwalder (Bochum, Germany) scored the game winner on a penalty kick as the University of New Hampshire men's soccer team defeated UC Irvine, 1-0, on Friday evening at Wildcat Stadium.

The Wildcats improve to 3-3-0 overall, while the Anteaters fall to 0-6-1 overall.

The Wildcats return to action on Saturday, Sept. 24, when they travel to Smithfield, R.I. to kick off America East play versus Bryant at 2 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The first half went scoreless as the Wildcats outshot UC Irvine, 6-1.
After a penalty kick was awarded to the Wildcats for a UC Irvine hand ball, Buchwalder gave UNH the 1-0 lead when he sent the ball into the upper left corner in the 77th minute (76:36).
The Wildcats were able to keep the Anteaters off the scoreboard to secure the win for a 1-0 final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

UNH outshot UC Irvine, 16-6, as the Wildcats took six shots on goal, while the Anteaters took one.
Senior goalkeeper Jassem Koleilat (Dubai, United Arab Emirates) recorded one save to earn the win, while Luke Pruter posted five saves for the Anteaters.
The Wildcats had nine corner kicks, while UC Irvine had one.

This was the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
Buchwalder's goal was the first of his UNH career.
