LOWELL, Mass. -- The University of New Hampshire men's basketball team closed out the regular-season with a 64-48 win at UMass Lowell in America East play on Tuesday night at the Tsongas Center.
The Wildcats improve to 15-12 overall (10-8 AE), while the River Hawks drop to 14-15 overall (6-11 AE). With the victory, UNH will finish in third or fourth place in the conference standings and will host a home quarterfinal playoff game on Sunday afternoon at home.
Sophomores Nick Johnson (Bronx, N.Y.) and Marco Foster (Chicago, Ill.), along with senior Jayden Martinez (Cibolo, Texas) each notched a team-high 13 points apiece in the road victory. Martinez shot 5-of-8 from the floor and 3-of-4 from the three-point arc, to go along with five rebounds. Foster added seven rebounds in the game as well for the 'Cats.
Senior forward Nick Guadarrama (Newington, Conn.) chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds, while Blondeau Tchoukuiegno (Montreal, Quebec) added nine points.
UNH shot 59% from the field and 63% from three in the first half. The 'Cats owned a 19-point advantage at halftime, 43-24.
The Wildcats owned a 36-30 rebounding advantage and a 30-22 edge in points in the paint vs. UMass Lowell.
Ayinde Hikim totaled a game-high 22 points for the River Hawks in the losing effort.
The Wildcats return action at home on Sunday, March 6 for America East quarterfinal playoff action. Game time is 1 p.m. from Lundholm Gymnasium on ESPN+. UNH will play either UAlbany or Binghamton in the opening round of the America East playoffs. CLICK HERE to buy tickets.
