Wildcats Secure Road Win, 67-51, at UAlbany in America East Opener

Daniels and Johnson score 17 points each to lead the ‘Cats in Conference Opener
TROY, N.Y. – Junior Clarence Daniels (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and junior Nick Johnson (Bronx, N.Y.) each tallied 17 points to lead the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team to a 67-51 win against UAlbany in their opening game of conference play at McDonough Sports Complex in Troy, N.Y. Saturday afternoon.
With the win, UNH improves to 6-7 (1-0 AE) and UAlbany falls to 5-11 (0-1 AE).

FIRST HALF
- The Wildcats got off to a hot start, hitting all four of their field goal attempts, including three three-pointers
- Daniels led the offense early on with two three-pointers of his own, scoring seven of the first 12 points for the 'Cats.
- Johnson contributed six points early on for UNH, making a layup to give the Wildcats a 16-6 lead with just over 13 minutes remaining in the half.
- UNH went on a 7-0 run soon after to extend the lead to 15, 23-8, with 8:20 left in the first frame.
- Johnson doubled his scoring total to 12 points with a little over six minutes remaining in the half, pushing the UNH lead to 32-12.
- Graduate student Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, N.J.) came in off the bench and provided an instant jolt of offense, hitting a long-range bucket and a layup to give the 'Cats a 23-point lead.
- The Wildcats held on to the 23-point advantage heading into the break, leading 41-18.
SECOND HALF
- UNH and UAlbany started the second half going back and forth, with the Great Danes cutting the lead to 18 after a steal and layup by Aaron Reddish.
- Johnson hit a corner three with just over eleven minutes left in the second half to push the 'Cats lead back over 20 points.
- With 6:00 remaining on the game clock, the Wildcats built their largest lead of the game, 63-36, capped off by a massive slam from Daniels on the fast break.
- The Great Danes answered with a 15-4 run to close out the game, but it was too late in the contest as UNH secured the 67-51 win.
NOTEWORTHY
- This was the largest margin of victory against UAlbany since a 78-59 road win on Feb. 15, 2009.
- This was the Wildcats first time playing at McDonough Sports Complex, as SEFCU Arena at UAlbany remains closed for renovations.
- UNH now holds a 21-27 record all-time against the Great Danes, winning on the road for the first time since Feb 22, 2020.
- Junior Kyree Brown (Oakland, Calif.) notched a career-high seven assists to go along with nine points.
- Freshman Ridvan Tutic (Novi Pazar, Serbia) recorded a career-high 11 rebounds, corralling four on the offensive end.
- Graduate student Jaxson Baker (Phoenix, Ariz.) matched a career-high three blocks, his most since joining the Wildcats as a transfer from Central Arkansas.
- Johnson tallied his fourth consecutive game in double figures, matching the longest streak of his career dating back to 02/05/21-02/28/21.

- UNH returns to action Jan. 5 at 7 p.m. in another America East matchup at Binghamton in Vestal, N.Y.
- The Wildcats' next home game is Jan. 8 at 12 p.m. against Vermont in Lundholm Gymnasium.
