'Cats edge UAlbany, 64-62 for first America East victory of the season

DURHAM, N.H. – Senior forward Nick Guadarrama (Newington, Conn.) notched a season-high and game-high 32 points to pace the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team to a 64-62 home victory against UAlbany at Lundholm Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon in America East play.
The Wildcats improve to 6-5 overall (1-1 AE) with the win, while the Great Danes fall to 4-10 overall (0-2 AE) after the loss.
Guadarrama led the 'Cats shooting 11-of-16 from the field and 5-of-7 from the three-point arc.
Sophomore guard Nick Johnson (Bronx, N.Y.) added 14 points in the victory for the Wildcats on 4-of-6 shooting, to go along with five rebounds and three assists.
Senior center Tayler Mattos (New London, N.H.) chipped in with eight rebounds and 11 boards, while sophomore Blondeau Tchoukuiegno (Montreal, Quebec) posted eight assists, six rebounds and four steals in a solid all-around game.
UNH as a team shot 47% from the field, which included an impressive 54% in the first half.
The Wildcats owned a 38-28 lead at halftime against UAlbany.
Jamel Horton tallied a team-high 22 points in the losing effort for the Great Danes.
The Wildcats return to action on Wednesday, January 12 against Maine in America East play. Game time from Lundholm Gymnasium on ESPN3 is 7 p.m.
