DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire field hockey program, led by head coach Robin Balducci, announced Friday that sisters Tamera and Tasmin Cookman (Woking, England) have signed a National Letter of Intent to join the program this fall.
"Both Tas and Mera have played and continue to play at a very high level," Balducci said. "I am excited for them to bring that experience as well as their speed and skillfulness of their game to our program."
Both Tamera and Tasmin attend St. Teresa's Effingham and play for the Surbiton Hockey Club team.
Tamera was a Surbiton co-captain in the 2020-21 season and has achieved a high level of success through the years with her club teams dating back to being the U12 indoor and outdoor national winners. The 5-foot-2 back/mifdielder was also part of the U13 school national winners and U14 club national winners.
Tamera was also the U16 school indoor top goal scorer and led that team to third place at nationals. In 2018, she was a Futures Cup finals captain and was named Player of the Tournament. Tamera has additional playing experience on both the U16 and U18 England teams.
Tasmin has also played for both the U16 and U18 England teams and captained the U18 team against the Ireland National League. The 5-2 forward was a member of the U13 national championship and U14 national championship teams, as well as the U16 indoor finalist team.
The Cookman sisters join UNH's incoming class that also includes Brecken Calcari (Saint Louis, Mo.), Bella Davies-Roche (Lymington, United Kingdom), Chloe Miller (Collegeville, Pa.) and Nicole Poulakis (Ajax, Ontario).
New Hampshire has played in the America East Championship tournament 14 of the last 15 years. The Wildcats boasted an All-American, two All-Northeast Region Team honorees and the America East Defensive Player of the Year this past season.
