LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Junior Jemma Woods (Frimley, England) recorded 10 saves, but the University of New Hampshire field hockey team was defeated 3-0 by fifth-ranked University of Louisville on Sunday afternoon at Trager Stadium.

Woods recorded five of her saves in the scoreless first quarter and had nine shots at halftime. Louisville counterpart Mila de Kuijer was credited with one save.

Alli Bitting, Katie Schneider and Filippa Niebuhr scored the Cardinals' goals.

"It was a big game for us, holding a Final Four team to 3-0," UNH head coach Robin Balducci said. "I'm pleased with our adjustments from Saturday's game. And the stats show Jemma was unbelievable for us.

"It's an important game for us, moving us forward for what's down the road," Balducci continued. "I'm happy with what we were able to execute and accomplish regardless of the score."

UP NEXT

UNH returns to action Sept. 3 (4 p.m.) at Boston University and plays third-ranked University of Iowa at BU on Sept. 4.
The Wildcats' home opener is Sunday, Sept. 19 (12 p.m.) against No. 7 Boston College.

FIRST QUARTER

Louisville recorded a 5-0 shot advantage in the opening 15 minutes.
Woods denied Erica Cooper on a penalty corner in the 11^th minute and then turned aside Mattie Tabor's initial shot and rebound chance in the 15^th minute.

SECOND QUARTER

Louisville broke the scoreless tie when Bitting scored on a rebound at 27:34. Woods had denied Aimee Plumb on the initial shot.
UNH responded with pressure, but the shot off the stick of sophomore Mari Shea (Hampstead, N.H.) was stopped by de Kuijer.

THIRD QUARTER

Senior Tia Raspante (Sandwich, Mass.) had her shot attempt blocked away by a defender in the 37^th minute.
Schenieder tipped a shot into the cage to give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead at 38:26.
The Wildcats yielded just one shot – blocked by a defender – the remainder of the quarter.

FOURTH QUARTER

Niebuhr scored with 5:23 remaining in the game to extend the advantage to 3-0. It was the only shot of the fourth quarter that was on goal.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

Louisville finished with the edge in shots (24-2), shots on goal (11-1) and penalty corners (12-0).

UNH NOTEBOOK

The 10-save effort marked the fourth time of her career that Woods recorded double-digit saves in a game. She also finished with 10 saves twice last season (at Boston College and at Vermont) and recorded a career-high 11 saves at Maine last season.
