INDIANAPOLIS – The University of New Hampshire athletic department earned an NCAA Graduation Success Rate score of 95 percent, including 10 teams with a perfect mark of 100, in the most recent data that was released Thursday. UNH's mark held steady from last year and is higher than the national average of 90 percent.
"Our coaches recruit amazing student-athletes," UNH Deputy Director of Athletics and SWA Michelle Bronner said. "These young people excel at their sports but more importantly continue to thrive in the classroom. Our student-athletes understand their playing careers are limited but the education they receive at UNH will carry them to their future. Their hard work and dedication is inspiring and we are tremendously proud of their achievement."
UNH tied for the highest overall Graduation Success Rate among 10 America East conference schools with its mark of 95 percent and also recorded the highest Federal Graduation Rate (81 percent).
New Hampshire was the conference leader in the 10 sports that received a perfect mark of 100; they are women's basketball, field hockey, gymnastics, women's ice hockey, lacrosse, men's skiing, women's skiing, women's soccer, swimming & diving and volleyball.
Four other Wildcat teams recorded a score of 90 or higher with women's cross country/track & field (96) followed by men's ice hockey (95), football (94) and men's soccer (90).
Overall, 14 of 16 UNH teams recorded a GSR higher than the sport's national average. Football's mark of 96 percent is significantly higher than the 80% FCS national average.
This year's overall GSR is the seventh consecutive year UNH recorded a mark of 90 or higher; the Wildcats recorded a 95 last year, 96 in 2019, 93 in 2018, 92 in 2017, 91 in 2016, and 90 in 2015.
The GSR indicates the percentage of scholarship student-athletes earning a degree within six years; these numbers are for the entering class of 2015. The NCAA developed the GSR to more accurately assess the academic success of student-athletes. Unlike the federal graduation rate, the GSR takes transfer students into account.
New Hampshire's outstanding GSR reflects the high academic performance of its student-athletes. UNH won the America East Walter Harrison Academic Cup, which acknowledges the highest overall grade-point-average for the fourth time in five years in the 2018-19 season.
