Former Saint Michael’s two-sport athlete coached at Burke Mountain, Steamboat Springs
DURHAM, N.H. – University of New Hampshire 14th-year alpine ski head coach Brian Blank announced the hiring of Amber McHugh as the new assistant coach for the men's and women's alpine teams.
McHugh spent 11 years (2007-18) coaching the men's and women's FIS teams at Burke Mountain Academy in Vermont before coaching at Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club in Colorado. McHugh, a former two-sport athlete (skiing, soccer) at Saint Michael's College from 1999-2003, most recently coached in Oslo, Norway, in 2020.
"We are very fortunate to get someone with the experience and passion for skiing that Amber possesses," Blank said. "Our skiers will benefit from her expertise, and we are excited to welcome her to the Wildcat family."
McHugh, a Level 400 alpine coach, is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with USA Weightlifting Level 1 certification. She is working toward her master's degree in strength and conditioning.

The 2021 UNH ski team is led by two-time NCAA All-American and reigning alpine team MVP Patrick Kenney (Hingham, Mass.) to go along with Nordic MVPs and 2020 NCAA Championship skiers Lucinda Anderson (Golden Valley, Minn.) and Scott Schulz (Lake Placid, N.Y.). The Wildcats placed ninth at NCAAs last March to mark the 27th Top-10 placement in ski coordinator Cory Schwartz's 38 seasons leading the program.
