Wildcats Fall to Quinnipiac, 64-58

HAMDEN, Conn. – Junior forward Jayden Martinez (Cibolo, Texas) led the Wildcats with 17 points and 12 rebounds, but the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team fell to Quinnipiac on Sunday afternoon, 64-58, at People's United Center. The Wildcats are now 1-2 overall, while the Bobcats improve to 2-2 overall.

Quinnipiac was led by Brendan McGuire who posted 17 points, while Tymu Chenery added 16 points. Junior guard Marque Maultsby (Raleigh, N.C.) and redshirt freshman Blondeau Tchoukuiengo (Montreal, Quebec) each posted 11 points for the Wildcats. Quinnipiac grabbed 40 rebounds and shot 41.5 percent from the field, while the Wildcats also posted 40 rebounds and shot 31.3 percent.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
- After Quinnipiac started the game on a 5-0 run, Martinez tipped in the first two points for the Wildcats.
- With the Wildcats trailing 15-5, UNH went on a 6-0 run capped off with a layup by redshirt freshman Nick Johnson (Bronx, N.Y.) with 11:56 left in the first half to make the score 15-11.
- The Bobcats then outscored UNH by a 19-16 margin to take a 34-27 lead to the half.
Second Half:
- With Quinnipiac up 36-29 early in the second half, the Wildcats scored five straight points to cut the Bobcats' lead to 36-34 with 15:55 remaining.
- After a three-pointer by Chenery increased the Quinnipiac lead to 39-34, UNH answered with two made free throws by Johnson to make it a 39-36 game with 13:43 left in the second half.
- But the Bobcats outscored UNH 25-22 for the remainder of the game to clinch the 64-58 win.
