Storey, Torres Pace ‘Cats in Loss to Binghamton

DURHAM, N.H. – University of New Hampshire senior Ashley Storey (Cumberland, Maine) and junior Amanda Torres (Hudson, N.H.) tallied a team-high 14 points each, but the Wildcats women's basketball team fell to the Binghamton Bearcats by a score of 63-53 on Saturday afternoon at Lundholm Gymnasium.
The Wildcats shot 56.3% from the field in the final frame (9-16) and outscored the Bearcats 18-13, but an early 9-0 run to start the game was enough for Binghamton to lead wire-to-wire.
NEXT UP: The Wildcats head on the road for their midweek matchup next Wednesday, January 29 when they face Vermont for an 11 A.M. tip-off on ESPN+.

HIGHLIGHTS:
- Storey's 14 points came on 5-of-11 shooting, and 1-of-3 from three. She also grabbed three boards, dished an assist, and had a blocked shot.
- Torres went 6-of-15 from the floor and grabbed a team-high five rebounds. She also dished a team-high three assists on no turnovers, and had one steal.
- Another Wildcat with a team-high five rebounds was junior Maggie Ahearn (Marshfield, Mass.); Ahearn also tallied four points, two assists, and a block off the bench.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Binghamton opened the game on a 9-0 run in the first three minutes of play.
- New Hampshire responded back with a midrange jump shot by senior Caroline Soucy (Beverly, Mass.) to put UNH on the board.
- The teams would trade buckets to a 20-12 score at the end of the first quarter, after a buzzer-beating second-chance layup by sophomore Ivy Gogolin (Hopkinton, Mass.).
- New Hampshire cut the lead all the way down to four points to start the second quarter, with baskets from Amanda Torres and Ashley Storey, on UNH's best run of the game, 8-0.
- Binghamton answered back with a three-pointer on the next possession to put the lead back up to seven.
- From that point, Binghamton would lead by at least seven points for the remainder of the contest, leading 32-21 at halftime.
- The Bearcats outscored the Wildcats 18-14 in the third, not allowing UNH to climb back into single digits, shooting 5-of-10 from the floor to UNH's 5-of-14.
- The Wildcats shot an impressive 56.3% in the fourth, outscoring Binghamton 18-13, but the third quarter lead was too much to overcome.
