UNH improves to 6-0-2

HAMDEN, Conn. – With the game tied at 1-1 in the second half, junior Jacob Gould (Exeter, N.H.) scored the game winner in the 86th minute as the No. 15 University of New Hampshire men's soccer team defeated Quinnipiac, 3-1, on Tuesday afternoon at Quinnipiac Soccer Stadium.

The Wildcats remain undefeated, improving to 6-0-2 overall, while the Bobcats fall to 2-3-2 overall. So far this season, the Wildcats have outscored their opponents 15-5.

Senior Antonio Colacci (Bradenton, Fla.) posted one goal and one assist for three points, while junior Josh Bauer (Bedford, N.H.) also scored a goal.

UNH returns home to Wildcat Stadium to take on Binghamton, Friday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. on ESPN+. Tyler Zickel and Erik Sundsted will have the call. UNH is 23-1-3 all-time at Wildcat Stadium. The Wildcats have outscored their opponents 48-10 over the 27 games played at the stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

In the seventh minute senior Jack Doherty (Meriden, N.H.) sent the first shot on goal of the game to the bottom left corner of the net that was saved by Quinnipiac's Jared Mazzola.
Then in the 13th minute freshman Bilal Kamal (London, England) sent another shot on net to the bottom center of the goal that was saved by Mazzola.
The Wildcats looked to take the lead in the 21st minute when Colacci sent a shot on net from the center of the box that ricocheted off the crossbar.
In the 36th minute (35:56), Bauer headed a throw-in from sophomore Jonny Wolf (Hopkinton, Mass.) into the bottom left corner of the net past Mazzola to take the lead, 1-0.
In the 66th minute, junior Linus Fallberg (Jonkoping, Sweden) hit a shot from 12 yards out that was saved by Mazzola.
Then in the 79th minute (78:38), Quinnipiac's Tomas Svecula capitalized on a penalty kick that went to the right side of the net past sophomore goalkeeper Tomeu Pocovi (Mallorca, Spain) tying up the game.
In the 86th minute, Gould received a pass from Colacci and chipped it over Mazzola's head into the top right corner to take the lead 2-1.
The Wildcats cliched the win as Colacci capitalized on a Bobcat penalty in the box in the 89th minute (88:21), shooting lower left to secure the 3-1 victory for UNH.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

UNH outshot Quinnipiac, 29-2, while the Wildcats posted 10 shots on goal and the Bobcats recorded one.
The 'Cats took 13 corner kicks, while Quinnipiac earned two.
Pocovi posted the win in his first start of the season, while Mazzola finished with seven saves and is now 2-3-2.

Gould scored his second goal and second game winner in the last two games. He now has four game winners for his career.
