#21 Wildcats Remain Undefeated With 4-0 Win at Fairfield

Fabian Lutz nets first two goals as a Wildcat.
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Graduate student Fabian Lutz (Bad Gröenenbach, Germany) scored his first two goals as a Wildcat as the No. 21 University of New Hampshire men's soccer team defeated Fairfield, 4-0, in a matchup of two undefeated teams on Saturday evening at Lessing Field. With the win, UNH remains undefeated at 3-0-2, while the Stags fall to 1-1-2. UNH head coach Marc Hubbard earned his 50th win at the school and is now 50-20-12 (.683) as he is currently in his fifth season. The Wildcats improve to 2-0-2 on the road this season as they concluded their four-game road trip.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Fairfield took the first shot on goal of the game when Fernando Robayo sent a header from 12 yards out that graduate student goalkeeper Alejandro Robles (Monterey, Mexico) kept out of the net.
- The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute (8:27) when Lutz scored his first goal as a Wildcat. Sophomore Jonny Wolf (Hopkinton, Mass.) sent a long throw in to junior Josh Bauer (Bedford, N.H.) who headed the ball to Lutz who then sent a one-timer from five yards out to the lower right side of the net.
- Junior Lukas Rubio (Liverpool, N.Y.) looked to increase the lead in the 30th minute but his shot from 18 yards out was saved by Gordon Botterill.
- UNH outshot Fairfield in the first half by a 6-2 margin, while the Wildcats posted three shots on goal and the Stags recorded one.
- Lutz increased the lead to 2-0 in the 66th minute (65:55) when he blasted a one-timer on a loose ball from 15 yards out to the lower left corner of the net for his second goal of the game.
- Senior Jack Doherty (Meriden, N.H.) stole the ball at half field then went on a breakaway to score his first goal of the season to give UNH a 3-0 lead in the 76th minute (75:59).
- The Wildcats posted the last goal of the game in the 83rd minute (82:38) for the 4-0 final score when redshirt freshman Rory O'Driscoll stole a pass from the goalie and then sent a shot to the open net from 25 yards out for his first collegiate goal.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Robles made two saves and is now 3-0-2, while Botterill posted four saves for the Stags and is 1-1-2.
- The Wildcats outshot the Stags, 14-4, while UNH posted eight shots on goal and Fairfield recorded two.
- Each team had two corner kicks.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Lutz posted his first two goals as a Wildcat. He leads the team with six points on two goals and a team-best two assists on the season.
- O'Driscoll tallied his first collegiate goal.
- Doherty recorded his sixth career goal.
