UP NEXT // NEXT HOME GAME
- UNH continues its season-opening three-game road swing Sept. 1 (11 a.m.) at second-ranked University of Maryland.
- The Wildcats' home opener is Sept. 8 against College of the Holy Cross. Start time is 1 p.m. at Memorial Field.
1st QUARTER
- The teams played to a scoreless opening 15 minutes in which the home team recorded a 3-1 shot advantage.
- American opened with three shots in the opening four minutes, but two were off target and Simkevich stopped the other.
- The WilAUats threatened in the 11th minute with consecutive penalty corners, the second of which produced a shot wide by Bloem van den Brekel (Eindhoven, Netherlands).
2nd QUARTER
- UNH's Raspante was denied by Minter at 24:45, but that lead to a penalty corner. The direct shot off the stick of Nicky Bajus (Lions Bay, British Columbia) went wide of the cage.
- American was held without a shot or corner in the quarter until the final 30 seconds. Simkevich denied Hannah Moser but then the home team earned a corner with 13 second remaining and converted it into a goal.
- The Eagles took a 1-0 lead into halftime when Noor Coenen scored a penalty-corner goal with six seconds on the clock.
3rd QUARTER
- Moser struck at 36:29 and Gaby de Kock scored 95 seconds later – off a rebound on a corner – to quickly extend the lead to 3-0.
- Isabelle Danahy (Chelmsford, Mass.) sent a long pass through AU's defense to Caron, who scored UNH's first goal of the 2019 season at 41:29 to trim the deficit to 3-1.
- Neither team recorded a shot or corner the last 3:31 of the quarter.
4th QUARTER
- Simkevich denied de Kock in the 47th minute, but Jette Dieckmann tipped in Atina Pagani's centering pass at 47:34 to reestablish a three-goal advantage, 4-1, at 47:34.
- The 'Cats responded with pressure in the 52nd minute that resulted in a goal. Kayla Sliz's (Ajax, Ontario) shot was blocked but resulted in a second penalty corner, and this time Caron put the ball into the cage to lift UNH within 4-2 at 51:19.
- The teams combined for one shot the rest of the game, and that was a shot high of the crossbar by AU's Charllene Boshoff just 30 seconds after Caron's tally.
