Soucy Leads ‘Cats in Victory over Bryant

The senior guard made five three-pointers in the contest.
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Senior guard Caroline Soucy (Beverly, Mass.) tallied a game-high 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting, leading the way for the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team as the Wildcats defeated the Bryant Bulldogs by a score of 68-56 on Saturday afternoon.
New Hampshire trailed Bryant 33-29 at the end of the second quarter, after a back-and-forth first half that saw the lead change three times. New Hampshire would pull away in the third quarter and would hold that lead for the remainder of the game.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Of Soucy's seven made field goals, five of them came from behind the arc. She went 5-for-9 in three point shots. Five made three-pointers was a new career high for Soucy.
- Senior Ashley Storey (Cumberland, Maine) shot 6-11 from the field and 1-1 from behind the arc for 14 total points and a team-high seven rebounds.
- Both Storey and Soucy also performed well defensively, each tallying a block and a steal in the contest.
- Three other Wildcats posted eight points each in the contest: Freshman Héléna Dellaruelle (Enghien-les-Bains, France) who also had two steals and three assists, junior Amanda Torres (Hudson, N.H.) adding in a team-high four assists, and sophomore Ivy Gogolin (Hopkintin, Mass.) whom also grabbed five rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- New Hampshire took an early lead off of big plays in the paint with layups from Ivy Gogolin and Ashley Storey. Bryant would tie the game and eventually take a five point lead in the final two minutes of the first quarter.
- A good drive to the basket by Amanda Torres gave her two free throw shots that regained the lead for the Wildcats halfway through the second quarter. Bryant would take the lead back and trade buckets with the Wildcats for the final two minutes of the half to hold a 33-29 lead at the half.
- Two free throws early in the third by Torres knotted the game up at 33 and a three-pointer by Ashley Storey gave the 'Cats the lead for good.
- New Hampshire would control the game in the final quarter and a half leading by as much as 16 in the final frame.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- New Hampshire tallied half of its points in the game in the paint (34 of 68).
- The Wildcats forced 14 Bryant turnovers in the game and tallied 22 points off of those turnovers.
- Amanda Torres was a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe; Ivy Gogolin was 2-2.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Caroline Soucy is the first Wildcat since Brittni Lai '18 to make five or more three pointers in a game; Lai hit five three-pointers against Bryant on November 22, 2016.
- The all-time series between UNH and Bryant is now tied 4-4. New Hampshire won all four of its game in four straight meetings.
- The starting lineup group of Dellaruelle, Soucy, Torres, Gogolin, and Storey are now 1-1 this season.
