Storey, Delaruelle Lead ‘Cats in Loss at Merrimack

Storey had a team-high 21 points, Delaruelle 12 boards.
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – University of New Hampshire senior Ashley Storey (Cumberland, Maine) posted her second straight 20-point game and freshman Héléna Delaruelle (Enghien-Les-Bains, France) grabbed a team-best 12 rebounds, but the UNH women's basketball team fell to the Merrimack Warriors 64-54 on Saturday evening.
New Hampshire led by as much as seven points in the third quarter but the Warriors were able to tie the game up and lead before the final quarter; the Wildcats came back one final time to tie but Merrimack re-took the lead with three minutes to go and went on a 11-2 run on the way to a 10-point victory.

HIGHLIGHTS:
- Senior forward Ashley Storey posted her second straight 20-point performance and the 10th of her career dropping 21 points on nine made field goals and 3-of-4 from the charity stripe.
- Freshman Héléna Delaruelle posted UNH's first 10+ rebound performance of the season with a career-high 12 boards, adding eight points to the total. She also dished six assists on no turnovers, and tallied three steals.
- Senior Caroline Soucy (Beverly, Mass.) and sophomore Ivy Gogolin (Beverly, Mass.) both grabbed six rebounds, each with four offensive rebounds. Gogolin tallied six points, Soucy tallied five.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- A back and forth first half saw both teams with several leads, three ties in the first quarter and two in the second; both teams had tallied 25 points by halftime.
- New Hampshire got to its biggest lead of the half off of a short run that included four points from sophomore Mariah Gonzalez (Watkins Glen, N.Y.) on a jumper in the paint and two free throws; Gonzalez ended the night with seven total points.
- Freshman Lexi Greffen (Portsmouth, R.I.) hit a three pointer to put UNH up by five points (25-20) with 1:03 to go in the half but the Warriors came back to tie it up in the final 20 seconds.
- In the second half Storey and Delaruelle opened up the scoring to put UNH up by four within first two minutes. A three-pointer by Delaruelle with 5:53 to go in the third gave UNH its biggest lead of the night, 37-30.
- Free throws would get Merrimack back to even in the score column and the Warriors led 45-42 after three quarters.
- Ashley Storey hit a jumper with 5:32 left in regulation to give UNH a one point lead at 48-47, but Merrimack would two free throws to retake the lead and go on an 11-2 run.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- 34 of Merrimack's 64 points came from the free-throw line. The Warriors were 34-38 from the line, UNH was 11-14.
- UNH outrebounded Merrimack 47-41.
- The Warriors tallied seven blocks in the contest.
