Caron Scores in 3-1 Loss at UMass Lowell

LOWELL, Mass. – Finn Caron (Hampton, N.H.) tied the game in the 18th minute but UMass Lowell scored the last two goals to record a 3-1 victory against the University of New Hampshire in Sunday afternoon's America East matchup at Wicked Blue Field.
Rachel Thomson (Reading, Mass.) was credited with an assist and Erin McNamara (Sanbornton, N.H.) tallied a defensive save for the Wildcats. Kelsey Rudert (North Grafton, Mass.) made four saves.
UML was led by Anouk Lalande (two goals) and Eva Berkhout (seven saves).
UNH, a 3-2 winner against No. 18 Maine on Friday, is now 3-7 overall and 1-1 in America East. The River Hawks are 6-4, 1-2.

GAME RECAP
- Lalande quickly gave the home team a 1-0 lead with a goal on the first shot of the game, a reverse-stick chip shot at 1:22.
- UNH responded with pressure, but shots off the stick of both Rachel Bossi (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Bloem van den Brekel (Eindhoven, Netherlands) went wide of the cage.
- The Wildats generated a penalty corner in the eighth minute that produced back-to-back shots by Kayla Sliz (Ajax, Ontario) and van den Brekel that were stopped by Berkhout.
- McNamara's defensive save at 13:07 denied Lynes and kept the score 1-0.
- Caron's blast on a one-timer from Thomson leveled the score, 1-1, at 17:09.
- UNH did not record another shot the rest of the half, however, and the River Hawks converted a corner into a 2-1 lead on Lynes' tally with 17 seconds remaining in the first half.
- UMass Lowell took that one-goal advantage into halftime and also had the edge in shots (10-8) and corners (7-3).
- UML capitalized on another corner to extend the lead to 3-1 on Lalande's redirection at the right post at 48:16.
- The 'Cats called time out, and neither team recorded a corner or shot until UNH was awarded a corner at 59:01 that led to Sliz's shot over the crossbar.
- A shot by Bailey Fanikos (Lynnfield, Mass.) was wide in the 63rd minute and Bossi's bid in the 66th minute was stopped by Berkhout.
- Rudert kept the margin at two goals with a save against Clara Defourt with 93 seconds remaining.
- UNH quickly advanced the ball to the other end of the field and earned a corner, but a shot by Nicky Bajus (Lions Bay, British Columbia) was turned away by Berkhout.
- Berkhout made one more save in the closing seconds to preserve the victory.
NOTES
- New Hampshire has a 7-2 lifetime record vs. UMass Lowell. Both of the River Hawks' wins have been at Wicked Blue Field.
- Each of the previous six meetings were decided by one goal.
- UNH recorded a 7-4 shot advantage in the second half to finish with a 15-14 edge overall.
- UML had a 9-5 edge in corners.
- It was the third goal of the season for Caron, the reigning America East Rookie of the Week.
- Bossi recorded a team-high four shots, two of which were on goal.
- UML's Lynes finished with a game-high six shots with two on target.
