Ski Team Takes Fourth at St. Michael's Carnival

Wedsjö paces alpine efforts with seventh-place finish in slalom
SMUGGLERS' NOTCH, Vt. – By recording her third straight Top-10 finish to kick start the 2018 EISA ski season Saturday, Lisa Wedsjö (Saltsjöbaden, Sweden) secured seventh place in the women's slalom at Smugglers' Notch to lead the University of New Hampshire ski team to a fourth-place finish at the St. Michael's Carnival.
The UNH women's alpine took third place in SL with 84 points, and the men accrued 70 points to finish sixth in its race. Bryan Cookson (Vernon, British Columbia) headlined the men's alpine lineup by completing the course in 16th place (25 points, 1:42.43).
The University of Vermont won the carnival with a score of 956, which edged Dartmouth (946). Middlebury took third (706), followed by the Wildcats (611) and Colby College (529) to round out the Top 5.

Wildcat Notes
•Wedsjö has been UNH's top women's alpine competitor in all three carnival races this season.
•Nawrocki registered her second Top-20 finish in as many races to start out her EISA career; she placed 19th in Friday's giant slalom.
•Only 0.06 seconds separated Cookson from Bruneau-Bouchard; each earned points in Friday's GS as well.
•Tõnis Luik (Tallinn, Estonia), who finished 0.04 seconds behind Steinke, just missed out on points in finishing 23rd overall.
Looking ahead
•For the first time all season, both the Wildcat alpine and Nordic teams will compete in the same carnival the same weekend as the 'Cats compete at the Vermont Carnival on Feb. 2-3. On Friday, the men's and women's giant slalom (9 a.m.) take place at Mt. Mansfield Ski Club, while the women's 15K skate mass start (10 a.m.) and men's 20K skate mass start (12 p.m.) are scheduled for Trapp Family Lodge.
