WHAT HAPPENED
Tyler Kelleher (Longmeadow, Mass.) recorded his 99th and 100th career points with a goal and an assist. He reached the milestone with a second-period assist. He has 31 goals and 69 assists in 105 games.
The first four goals of the game were scored on the power play, including a 5-on-3 goal by both teams.
UNH took a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at 7:54 of the first period, just 23 seconds after UVM's Craig Puffer was sent to the penalty box for high sticking. The initial shot by Andrew Poturalski (Williamsville, N.Y.) from the right wing was stopped by Packy Munson, but Kelleher corralled the rebound in the slot and scored his eighth goal of the season.
Vermont tied the score, 1-1, with a power-play goal at 2:18 of the second period. Danny Tirone (Trumbull, Conn.) made the initial save on Kevin Irwin's shot from the slot, but Liam Coughlin pulled in the rebound at the top of the crease and jammed the puck into the net.
UNH regained the lead, 2-1, by scoring a 5-on-3 power-play goal at 4:56 of the middle frame. Kelleher's pass from the left doorstep deflected off a defender's skate in the slot across to Michael McNicholas (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) at the right doorstep, and he scored into the open near side.
UVM also netted a 5-on-3 power-play goal to once again tie the score, 2-2, at 10:16 when Alexx Privitera's shot from the left point sailed into the net.
Conor O'Neil scored the only even strength goal of the game on what proved to be the game-winning goal with 26 seconds left in the second stanza. Brady Shaw's initial shot from the slot was stopped by Tirone. O'Neil charged along the left end line and the puck redirected off his skates into the net.
UNH pulled Tirone with 83 seconds remaining in regulation but could not level the score.
