Fogarty Leads 'Cats Past Dartmouth to 10-3 Start

DURHAM, N.H. – Junior forward Kat Fogarty (Westminster, Mass.) poured in a career-high 23 points to lead the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team to its fourth straight win, 64-47, over Dartmouth College on Saturday afternoon in Lundholm Gymnasium.
The Wildcats won for the ninth time in their last 10 games and closed out the nonconference portion of their schedule with a 10-3 record and their best start to a season since 1998-99.
They open America East play with an Education Day home game against Stony Brook on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
Fogarty led four Wildcats in double figures in scoring. Junior guard Brittni Lai (Irvington, N.Y.) had 12 points and junior center Carlie Pogue (Cincinnati, Ohio) and sophomore forward Ashley Storey (Cumberland, Maine) each scored 10.
Dartmouth, which beat UNH's America East rival Albany 69-61 in overtime on Thursday, fell to 5-8.

The Wildcats open America East play with an Education Day home game against Stony Brook on Wednesday at 11 a.m. They follow that with a home game against Albany on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m.

HIGHLIGHTS
UNH jumped in front early and rode the advantage to its first win of the season over an Ivy League team. The Wildcats lost their opening game of the season, 61-56, at Cornell and dropped a game to Yale, 64-58, at home on Dec. 11.
The Wildcats made 11 of their 17 field goal attempts (64.7 percent) in the first quarter.
Fogarty had hit her career high in points before the first half ended. She had 20 points and all eight of her rebounds at the break.
Senior guard Kristen Anderson (Greene, Maine) and junior guard Aliza Simpson (Londonderry, N.H.) each had five assists for the Wildcats. UNH had 17 assists for the game against eight turnovers.
The Wildcats outrebounded Dartmouth 40-31 in the game and had an 11-4 edge in second chance points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Wildcats started fast and behind a 14-0 run and 12 points from Fogarty opened a 26-9 lead after one period.
UNH went up 30-11 early in the second period on a couple of Storey baskets and Dartmouth answered with a 9-0 stretch. The Wildcats closed out a streaky first half with another run of 10 points for a 40-20 edge at the break.
Dartmouth got the lead down to 47-30 after three periods and then 47-33 early in the fourth period.
The Wildcats responded with a nine-point run to push the lead back to 56-33 and keep control of the game.
