11/23/2016 5:06:00 PM | Men's Basketball
DURHAM, NH. – Junior forward Tanner Leissner (Converse, Texas) led the way for the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team with a career-high 31 points on 9-13 shooting to take down the University of Detroit Mercy, 86-70, Wednesday afternoon in Lundholm Gym.
HIGHLIGHTS
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Wildcats opened the game firing on all cylinders as they scored on their first three possessions, starting with a Leissner backdoor layup. UNH continued their strong offense with consecutive threes by Dion and Jordan Reed to lead 13-7. Smith found way through the Detroit defense to finish inside, giving the 'Cats a double-digit lead with 12:53 remaining in the half.
After seeing their lead cut to two with just 3:00 remaining in the half, a couple trips to the free throw line and a late Leissner triple brought the difference back up to 44-36 heading into halftime.
Leissner again began the second half finishing consecutive layups through contact from the block. Just as Detroit began to gain offensive momentum, UNH cut their streak and went on an 11-1 run of their own to go up 60-43 with 12:30 remaining. With 5:00 left to play the Detroit full court pressure did not stump the Wildcats as Leissner continued to assert his dominance inside the paint. As the game slowed down, UNH continued to hit from the free throw line to solidify their hold on the game to top the Titans
