Smith Scores Career-High 27 in 65-57 Loss to Abilene Christian

DURHAM, N.H. – Senior Jaleen Smith (Freeport, Texas) scored a career-high 27 points as the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team fell 65-57 to Abilene Christian University Thursday afternoon at Lundholm Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
New Hampshire was outscored in the first half 34-17 as they shot 21.7 percent from the field and 1 of 12 from beyond the arc. UNH had 11 first-half turnovers as Abilene Christian scored 15 points on the takeaways.
Smith opened the half with a corner three to provide early Wildcat momentum, which proved successful as Leissner drilled a pullup from deep just two possessions later. With just under 12:00 to play, Leissner tipped in a Love missed jumper to tighten the 51-27 ACU lead. Leissner went on a hot streak, sinking a pair of free throws followed by an inside layup through contact to extend an 8-0 run for UNH. Smith went on a streak of his own, scoring layups on three straight possessions to ignite the Wildcats. With 3:00 left to play, Smith hit two from the line to bring UNH within single digits (56-47). After a Camara offensive rebound on the next possession, Smith again finished inside to make it a 7-point game. New Hampshire to to start fouling down the stretch and was unable to mount the comeback.
