STUDENT-ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT

Lisa, a sophomore from Saltsjöbaden, Sweden, recorded a pair of 10th-place finishes to boost the UNH ski team to a third-place finish in the season-opening Bates Carnival that was held Jan. 15-16.
Lisa opened the weekend at Sunday River clocked in at a combined time of 2 minutes, 20.01 seconds for sixth place in the giant slalom; that effort was worth 37 points and propelled the Wildcats women's alpine squad to the second-highest team score with 99 points.
One day later, Lisa followed that with seventh place in the slalom at a time of 2:04.25. Those 37 points lifted the 'Cats to the third best team score of 93 points in that discipline.
Lisa was named co-MVP of the women's alpine team last year as a freshman. She earned All-America Second Team status by virtue of a sixth-place finish in giant slalom at the NCAA Championships, which were hosted by St. Lawrence University.
During the 2015 EISA circuit, Lisa recorded 10 top-10 finishes to earn All-East Second Team recognition. She ranked No. 8 overall in the East with a breakdown of No. 5 in giant slalom and No. 10 in slalom. Lisa's top finish in the giant slalom was third place, which she did three times – Vermont, St. Michael's and EISA Championships. Her top slalom finish was sixth place at the EISAs.
Eirik Fosnaes, skiing
Eirik, a senior from Hovik, Norway, recorded a top-10 effort in the 10K freestyle race and just missed out on another top-10 performance in the classic race with an 11th-place finish to help the UNH ski team earn third place in the season-opening Bates Carnival on Jan. 15-16.
Eirik notched eighth place in Saturday's 10K free with a time of 22 minutes, 29.3 seconds. In his first competition of the 2016 EISA season, he placed 11th in the men's classic sprint.
Last year, Eirik advanced to the NCAA Championships, where he placed 15th in the 20K classic mass start and 37th in the 10K freestyle. He recorded a top effort of second place in the 10K classic at the St. Michael's Carnival and was sixth in that event at the Vermont Carnival. His top effort in the freestyle was eighth place at the Dartmouth Carnival.
Eirik capped his sophomore year – his first year at UNH – with fifth place in the 10K classic and 13th place in the 20K free at the 2014 EISAs.
Eirik competed as a freshman at Maine Presque Isle, where he placed 17th in the freestyle and 25th in the classic at the NCAAs.
2016 WOMEN'S FROZEN FOUR COMES TO UNH'S WHITTEMORE CENTER
The NCAA Women's Frozen Four is coming back to Durham! UNH's Whittemore Center was the site of the national championship in 2002 and 2005 and it will be again in March 2016.
Tickets are on sale now for the NCAA 2016 Women's Frozen Four that will be played at the Whitt on March 18 & 20. The all-session package includes a ticket to both the March 18 semifinal games (single admission; 4/7 pm) and the March 20 championship game (2 pm).
Each all-session chairback seat costs $35. There is also a bench seat option at $25 for adults and $20 for students, seniors and youths. Groups of 20 or more can purchase an all-session package at $15 per seat, regardless of section.

UNH LAUNCHES 2016 FOOTBALL STADIUM TICKET CAMPAIGN
The UNH department of athletics has launched of a marketing campaign aimed at establishing a priority system for seat selection at the under-construction Wildcat Stadium for the 2016 season.
The campaign will enable fans to reserve season tickets in the state-of-the-art stadium. For a $25 deposit per seat, fans will receive a seat selection priority number in the order in which their reservation is made. The deposit is completely refundable and nonbinding.
Current season ticket holders for 2015 football do not need to make a seat deposit at this time; they will be given seat selection priority over the general public. The seat selection process for season ticket holders will be announced at a later date.
Details of season ticket packages, including amenities and privileges, will be announced this winter, at which time fans can select their ticket package preference. A "Select A Seat" event in which fans pick their actual seat location in the new stadium will be announced at a later time.
Fans can secure a priority number by clicking HERE or by mailing seat reservation deposits to Whittemore Center Arena Box Office, 128 Main Street, Durham, NH 03824.

MEN'S BASKETBALL (8-8 overall, 1-2 America East)
- The UNH men's basketball team opened the week with an 80-75 overtime loss at the University at Albany (Jan. 12), then was defeated by Stony Brook University, 80-50, on Jan. 16.
- Sophomore Tanner Leissner (Converse, Texas) matched his career high of 21 points at Albany on 8 of 14 shooting with three 3-pointers. He also recorded seven rebounds and five assists.
- Junior Jaleen Smith (Freeport, Texas) finished with 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists at Albany.
- Junior Jacoby Armstrong (Sachse, Texas) almost recorded a double-double vs. Stony Brook with 14 points and nine rebounds.
- Sophomore Iba Camara (Dakar, Senegal) scored 12 points at Albany and 13 vs. SBU.
- New Hampshire plays three games this week with trips to the University of Maine (Jan. 18, 7p.m; at the Cross Insurance Center, Bangor) and UMass Lowell (Jan. 21, 7 p.m.) before playing host to the University of Hartford (Jan. 24, 1 p.m.). The mid-week game at UMass Lowell will be on ESPN3.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (6-10 overall, 0-3 America East)
- The UNH women's basketball team remained winless in conference play with a 78-52 home loss to the University at Albany (Jan. 13) followed by a 63-54 loss at Stony Brook University (Jan. 16).
- The Wildcats made 12 of 14 free throws against Stony Brook to improve to 74.4% on the season, which is second best in the league.
- Senior guard Elizabeth Belanger (Acton, Mass.) scored a career-high 32 points, including 9 of 10 shooting from the foul line and 15 of the team's 20 fourth-quarter points, at SBU. She also collected nine rebounds and had three steals in playing all 40 minutes.
- Belanger supplanted assistant coach Kelsey Hogan at No. 10 on UNH's career scoring list with 1,195 points.
- Freshman forward Ashley Storey (Cumberland, Maine) recorded eight points and a career-high eight rebounds at Stony Brook.
- New Hampshire women's basketball returns to action Jan. 18 (3 p.m.) at home against the University of Maine in a game televised on ESPN3. The Wildcats also play host to UMasss Lowell on Jan. 21 (7 p.m.) before concluding this week's action Jan. 24 (12 pm.) at the University of Hartford; that game will also be on ESPN3.

GYMNASTICS (2-2 overall)
- The 18th-ranked UNH gymnastics team competed in two dual meets last week. In the 2016 home opener vs. Yale University (Jan. 14), the Wildcats defeated the Bulldogs with a score of 196.075. UNH then traveled to compete against West Virginia on Jan. 17 and returned home with a score of 195.225; WVU won the meet at 195.800.
- In the home meet vs. Yale, UNH posted the top six scores in both balance beam and floor exercise, the top four in vault and top three in uneven bars to defeat the Bulldogs with a season-high score of 196.075.
- Danielle Doolin (Medford, N.J.) took top honors in the all-around (39.025), tied for first in floor (9.850) and tied for third in vault (9.800).
- Elizabeth Mahoney (Hanson, Mass.) recorded a meet-high score of 9.875 on vault.
- Danielle Mulligan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) won the uneven bars with a judgment of 9.875.
- Meghan Pflieger (Barneveld, N.Y.) and Casey Lauter (Northport, N.Y.) tied for the top spot on beam with matching scores of 9.875. In other events, Pflieger was second on vault (9.850) and Lauter placed third on floor at 9.825.
- Kelsey Aucoin (Double Oak, Texas) tied Doolin's mark of 9.850 for a share of first place on floor. She was also third on beam (9.850).
- In the meet at WVU, Lauter placed first with a career-high 9.950 on balance team. She also placed second and was UNH's top performer in the all-around with a four-event score of 39.075.
- Mulligan was the top 'Cat on bars for the third time in as many meets this season with a third-place score of 9.850.
- Doolin earned a share of second place on floor with a team-best 9.850. She also placed third in the all-around with a 39.050.
- Lauter is ranked first in EAGL and tied for second in the nation on balance team with an average score of 9.900. She is also third in the conference in all-around (39.092) and fifth on floor (9.825). Lauter won both beam titles last week including a career-high 9.950 at WVU.
- Mulligan ranks second in EAGL and tied for 14th nationally on bars (9.875 average).
- The gymnastics team travels to western Pennsylvania for a Jan. 23 quad meet at the University of Pittsburgh with George Washington University and Temple University.
- UNH's next home meet is the Wildcat Invitational on Feb. 7 (1 p.m.); the 'Cats will be competing against the University of Bridgeport, Brown University and Towson University. MEN'S ICE HOCKEY (8-10-4 overall, 2-4-4 Hockey East)
- The UNH men's ice hockey team was swept in last weekend's home-and-home series against Northeastern University. The Huskies prevailed 4-2 on home ice on Jan. 15, then skated to a 6-2 victory Jan. 16 at the Whittemore Center.
- Marcus Vela (Burnaby, British Columbia) recorded the first multiple-goal game of his career with two tallies in Friday's road game. He scored a power-play goal the next night to finish the weekend with three points, all on goals.
- The men's ice hockey team welcomes 13th-ranked University of Notre Dame for a two-game series at the Whittemore Center on Jan. 22 (7 p.m.) and Jan. 23 (5 p.m.). Saturday's game will be broadcast on WBIN-TV.

WOMEN'S ICE HOCKEY (8-16-1 overall, 5-10-0 Hockey East)
- The UNH women's ice hockey team did not have any games scheduled last week.
- Junior forward Jonna Curtis (Elk River, Minn.) is the top 'Cat in goals (12), assists (13), points (25), shots (116) and plus/minus (+2). In the Hockey East league rankings, Curtis is 10th in points, tied for eighth in goals and fourth in shots (116).
- Sara Carlson (Hutchinson, Minn.), Marie-Jo Pelletier (Dalhousie, New Brunswick) and Jenna Rheault (Deering, N.H.) rank 2-3-4, respectively in the league in blocked shots with 51, 47 and 41.
- Amy Schlagel (Blaine, Minn.) is tied for 10th in Hockey East in defenseman scoring with 12 points (six goals, six assists).
- The women's ice hockey team returns to action Jan. 23-24 for a two-game series at the University of Maine. Both games begin at 2 p.m.

SKIING
- The UNH ski team placed behind carnival winner University of Vermont (944 points) and runner-up Dartmouth College (903) among the 17 teams that competed in the opening carnival of the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association season.
- Phil Rivet (Saint-Lambert, Quebec) raced to third place in the men's slalom and Lizzie Gill (Bozeman, Mont.) notched fifth place in the women's 5K freestyle.
- In women's SL, Lisa Wedsjö (Saltsjöbaden, Sweden) and Randa Teschner (Petawawa, Ontario) made it back-to-back Top-10s on the weekend with Wedsjö clocking in at 2:04.25 for seventh place (37 points) and Teschner taking eighth (35 points) in 2:04.73.
- One day earlier in the giant slalom, Wedsjö clocked in at a combined time of 2 minutes, 20.01 seconds for sixth place (37 points), and Teschner crossed the line in 2:20.54 for eighth (33 points).
- Eirik Fosnaes (Hovik, Norway) led the 'Cats in the men's 10K free by posting a Top-10 result. Fosnaes notched eighth place and 33 points in 22:29.3.
- Peter Holmes (Tahoe City, Calif.) finished fourth in the men's classic sprint Friday at Quarry Road. Holmes finished third in his initial heat, improved to second in the semifinals and claimed fourth in the A Finals.
- The women's Nordic duo of Katrin Larusson (Truckee, Calif.) and Lizzie Gill (Bozeman, Mont.) finished 3-4 in the women's classic sprint B Finals.
- The ski team returns to action this weekend at the Colby Carnival. The alpine squad competes at Sugarloaf on Jan. 22-23 while the Nordic contingent competes at Quarry Road on Jan. 23-24.

SWIMMING & DIVING (3-1 overall, 1-0 America East)
- The UNH swimming and diving team did not compete in a meet last week.
- The team last swam in competition Nov. 20-22, 2015 at the three-day Frank Elm Invitational that was hosted by Rutgers University.
- The swimming & diving team returns to action Jan. 23 (11 a.m.) at Rutgers University and then competes Jan. 24 (10 a.m.) at Binghamton University.

MEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD
- The UNH men's indoor track & field team opened the 2016 portion of its schedule with a 117-52 victory against College of the Holy Cross in a Jan. 16 dual meet at Paul Sweet Oval.
- D'Mahl McFadden (Penacook, N.H.) collected three first-place finishes by winning the 55-meter dash (6.68 seconds), 200m dash (23.12 seconds) and 55m hurdles (7.87 seconds).
- Michael Shanahan (Dover, N.H.) placed first in both the shot put (49 feet, 5 inches) and weight throw (62-6.50).
- Tyler Mulcahy (Weymouth, Mass.) earned the top spot in the 500m race (1:08.95) and long jump (personal-best 20-11.25).
- The men's indoor track & field team returns to action Jan. 22 (4 p.m.) at the Joe Donohue Invitational, which is hosted by Northeastern University. The Wildcats' next – and last – home meet of the indoor season is Jan. 30 (12 p.m.) against Maine, Vermont and Bowdoin.

WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD
- The UNH women's indoor track & field team resumed the 2015-16 season Jan. 16 with a 105-71 victory against College of the Holy Cross at the Paul Sweet Oval. The Wildcats won 13 of 17 events and finished 1-2 in six individual events.
- Elinor Purrier (Montgomery, Vt.) recorded the second-fastest time in the nation this season with a school-record mark of 2 minutes, 46.02 seconds in the 1,000-meter run. Purrier bested the previous benchmark of 2:48.16 by 2.1 seconds; Allison Letourneau had set that mark in 2012.
- Lauren Perrodin (Coral Springs, Fla.) was the only student-athlete to win two individual events, as she led a pair of UNH 1-2 finishes in the 55m and 200m dashes. Perrodin crossed the finish line in the 55m in 7.28 seconds and was clocked in 26.36 seconds in the 200m.
- Jeannette Mara (Bedford, N.H.) led a 1-4 Wildcat sweep in the high jump by clearing a height of 5-feet, 5 inches.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
- The UNH men's cross country team ended the 2015 season with a 30th-place finish at the NCAA Regional Championships held Nov. 13 at Franklin Park (Boston, Mass.).
- Sophomore Ryan Chiesa (Stockholm, N.J.) placed 118th in the 10K race with a time of 32 minutes, 52 seconds followed by junior Mitchell Dutton (Salem, N.H.) who collected 143rd place in 33:10.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
- Senior Laura Rose Donegan (Melbourne, Australia) earned All-America honors at the NCAA Division I Women's Cross Country Championships on Nov. 20 with a 30th place finish in 20 minutes, 20.9 seconds in the 6K race. She also received the Elite 90 award for the highest grade point average of all the athletes at the NCAA Championships.
- Last year, Donegan earned her first All-America recognition at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships when she placed 10th in the 3K steeplechase.
- The Australian native holds a 4.0 GPA while studying political science. She was named the America East Cross Country Elite 18 winner at the conference championships (Oct. 31). She collected the same award at the 2015 America East Indoor Championships as well, for the highest GPA of the top finishers.
- The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships. Donegan is the second UNH athlete to secure the honor, after Liz Guiney of women's skiing earned the award during the 2012-13 athletic season. There are 340+ cross country-sponsored programs by the NCAA at the Division I level.

FIELD HOCKEY (8-11 overall, 4-4 America East)
- The UNH field hockey team was defeated 2-1 by University of the Pacific in an America East quarterfinal game at the University at Albany on Nov. 6. The Wildcats recorded a sizable advantage in both shots (27-7) and penalty corners (13-5).
- Prior to the start of the tournament, junior midfielder Lindsey Nerbonne (Bow, N.H.) and sophomore midfielder Gianna Bensaia (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) were named to the All-Conference First Team. Freshman forward Katie Audino (Severn, Md.) was an All-Rookie Team selection. Senior forward Meg Carroll (Mansfield, Mass.) and senior back Chandler Giese (Trappe, Pa.) were voted to the All-Academic Team.
- At the conclusion of the tournament, senior forward Meg Flatley (Townsend, Mass.) was named to the All-Championship Team.
- Flatley extended her goal streak to three games by scoring her 10th goal of the season and 52nd career goal when she gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead at 23:07. That goal moved her into a tie for third on the program's career leaderboard with Hayley Rausch (2008-11). Flatley also climbed into No. 4 with 120 career points; that spot was previously held by Gaby Haroules (1977-80; 119 points).
- Nerbonne finished the season as the team leader in goals (12), game-winning goals (three), points (26) and shots (85).
- The end of the 2015 season marked the end of careers for Carroll, Flatley and Giese as well as classmates Emma Compagna (Canton, Mass.), Lynne Lehman (Landisburg, Pa.) and Taylor Rideout (Barrington, R.I.).

FOOTBALL (7-5 overall, 5-3 CAA)
- The UNH football team's impressive fourth-quarter comeback fell short in a 27-20 loss to Colgate University in an NCAA FCS first round game at Cowell Stadium on Nov. 28. The Wildcats have advanced to the NCAA postseason 12 consecutive years, which is the longest active streak in the nation.
- Junior defensive back Casey DeAndrade (East Bridgewater, Mass.), senior offensive lineman Austin Heter (McKees Rocks, Pa.) and junior tight end Jordan Powell (Forked River, N.J.) were named to the 2015 Division I All-New England Team by the New England Football Writers' Association.
- DeAndrade was named to the All-CAA Football First Team as both a cornerback and punt returner for the second consecutive year.
- Powell was also a First Team selection, while Heter was voted to the Second Team.
- Junior running back Dalton Crossan (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) received two accolades. He was named to the Third Team as a running back and kickoff returner.
- Senior captains Akil Anderson (Morristown, N.J.) and Jullian Turner (East Pittsburgh, Pa.) were Third Team honorees.
- Senior quarterback and captain Sean Goldrich (West Haven, Conn.) finished with career numbers of 654 completions on 1,068 attempts for 7,536 yards. On UNH's all-time leaderboard, those numbers rank No. 3 in completions, No. 5 in attempts and No. 5 in yards.

MEN'S SOCCER (10-5-3 overall, 3-3-1 America East)
- The UNH men's soccer team fell in the America East quarterfinals by a score of 1-0 at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County on Nov. 7 to end the Wildcats' season.
- Junior co-captain Chris Wingate (Hovik, Norway) earned the America East Midfielder of the Year title as well as an All-Conference First Team spot while Fazal Nabi (Portland, Maine), Lukas Goerigk (Berlin, Germany) and Andrew Chaput (Manchester, N.H.) each earned All-Conference Second Team honors.
- Rookie Chris Arling (Windham, N.H.) was selected to the All-Rookie Team.

WOMEN'S SOCCER (6-9-4 overall, 4-4-0 America East)
- The UNH women's soccer team saw its 2015 season come to an end in an America East quarterfinal game at the University of Maine on Oct. 29. The Wildcats and Black Bears battled to a 1-1 tie through the end of overtime, but Maine advanced 4-3 on penalty kicks at Mahaney Diamond.
- Senior Caroline Murray (New Canaan, Conn.) was named America East Midfielder of the Year and sophomore Brooke Murphy (Stow, Mass.) was named the America East Striker of the Year.
- Murphy and Murray were joined by senior captain Kirsten O'Neil (Hampton, N.H.) on the All-Conference First Team.
- Freshman Gaby Dorsey (Hubertus, Wis.) was selected to the All-Rookie Team.
- Murray and junior goalkeeper Mimi Borkan (Medfield, Mass.) were voted to the All-Academic Team.

VOLLEYBALL (21-9 overall, 11-1 America East)
- The UNH volleyball team saw its 2015 season end Dec. 3 with a straight-set loss to 11th-ranked University of Florida in an NCAA first round match. The Wildcats advanced to the NCAAs for the third consecutive year by winning the America East tournament title for the third straight year.
- The set scores vs. the Gators were 25-15, 25-9, 25-15.
- New Hampshire's 21 wins is the most in program history since the 2003 season (23-12, 12-2 AE).
- The end of the 2015 season also marks the end of UNH volleyball careers for seniors Abby Brinkman (Brecksville, Ohio), Brenna Buckwalter (Evergreen, Colo.), Cassidy Croci (Sylvania, Ohio), Tori Forrest (Powder Springs, Ga.), Maggie Kenney (Merrimack, N.H.) and Madison Lightfoot (Clarkston, Mich.). The senior class propelled the Wildcats to a 76-47 record during its tenure in Durham.
- UNH earned the automatic berth into the NCAAs by capturing the America East Championship title on its home court for the third consecutive year. The Wildcats trumped Binghmaton, 3-1, in the semifinals and defeated University at Albany, 3-1, in the Nov. 21 title match.
- It marked the first-time in program history that UNH won the conference title three straight seasons.
- The America East bestowed UNH 13 postseason awards with juniors Demi Muses (Orangevale, Calif.) and Keelin Severtson (Delray Beach, Fla.) taking home the league's co-Player of the Year and Setter of the Year respectively.
- Forrest garnered First Team and All-Academic Team honors for the third straight season. Muses and Severtson joined Forrest on the All-Conference First Team. Lightfoot notched her second consecutive appearance on the All-Conference Second Team. Alongside Forrest, Croci and Brinkman merited All-Academic Team mentions. Following the conclusion of the tournament Forrest was named the America East Championships' Most Outstanding Player. Joining Forrest on the All-Championship Team were Lightfoot and Croci.
- Lightfoot finished her UNH career as the all-time leader in digs, tallying 1,657 in her four years.
- Forrest concluded her collegiate career second all-time in total attacks (4,129), fifth all-time in kills (1,264) and eighth in digs (1,054).
