Men’s Soccer Battles at UMBC Saturday (7 p.m.)

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's soccer team is set to take on the University of Maryland Baltimore County on Saturday, Oct. 17 at Retriever Park at 7 p.m. Links to live stats and video are available on www.UNHWildcats.com.
SCOUTING NEW HAMPSHIRE: The Wildcats (8-2-2, 2-1-0 AE) are coming off a 2-1 loss at home to Binghamton University Wednesday evening. After a scoreless first half, Binghamton took a 1-0 lead in the 55th minute on a header goal. The Wildcats responded with a beautiful play as senior co-captain Andrew Chaput (Manchester, N.H.) played a ball in stride to junior co-captain Chris Wingate (Hovik, Norway) who then played a one-time volley into the back of the net. Binghamton scored what would prove to be the game winner in the 70th minute on a shot that was deflected into the net.
Wingate leads the squad on offense with 14 points on six goals and two assists. Three of his goals have been game winners. Seniors A.J. Albers (Eagan, Minn.) and Fazal Nabi (Portland, Maine) are behind Wingate as they have eight points apiece. Albers has four goals while Nabi has three goals and two assists. Rookie Chris Arling (Windham, N.H.) has seven points on a goal and five assists as senior Ben Ramin (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) has the same amount of points from three goals and one assist.
Senior Connor Pauley (Londonderry, N.H.) splits his six points on two goals and two assists while junior Karl Frisk (Molndal, Sweden) splits his three points on a goal and an assist. Junior Riley Ellis (Goffstown, N.H.) and freshman Alex Valencia (Tracy, Calif.) each have two points on one goal while senior Lukas Goerigk (Berlin, Germany) has two points on two assists. Junior Duff Thomson (Newton, N.H.) and Chaput round out the points as each has an assist.
Senior keeper Ryan Carpenter (Newmarket, N.H.) comes into the match with a record of 7-2-2 and three shutouts. He has a 1.05 goals against average and a .676 save percentage. Sophomore Andrew Pesci (Windham, N.H.) has made one start and has a 1-0-0 record with one shutout.
SCOUTING UMBC: The Retrievers (7-3-2, 1-1-1 AE) are coming off a 3-0 loss at the University of Vermont Wednesday afternoon. After a scoreless first half, Vermont broke the 0-0 tie in the 49th minute and scored again in the 69th minute. The Catamounts added an insurance goal in the 82nd minute to seal a 3-0 victory. UMBC keeper Billy Heaver made six saves on nine shots faced.
Darius Madison leads the Retrievers with 15 points on six goals and three assists. Kennedy O'Shea has 11 points on five goals and four assists. Michael Scott is third on the team in points with one goal and five assists for seven points. Heaver has started all 11 games he has played and has a goals against average 0.95 and a save percentage of .756.
WHAT'S UP NEXT: The Wildcats remain on the road as they travel to the University at Albany for a night tilt on Saturday, Oct. 24 at Bob Ford Field. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
