Men's Soccer Falls at No. 25 Denver, 1-0

DENVER – The University of New Hampshire men's soccer team fell by a score of 1-0 against No. 25 ranked Denver University Sunday afternoon at CIBER Field. The loss drops the Wildcats to 2-4-0 on the year while Denver improves to 4-2-0
Denver recorded the first shot of the game in the third minute of play when Teddy Mullin put an attempt wide of the net. Christopher Wingate (Hovik, Norway) recorded the first shot-on-goal in the ninth minute of play, but Pioneer keeper Oliver Brown made the save. Fazal Nabi (Portland, Maine) rifled a shot in the 10th minute, but the attempt was blocked by the Denver defense.
Travis Worra (Lancaster, Pa.) made his first save of the game in the 13th minute on a shot by Denver's Jordan Schweitzer. Worra made another save in the 29th minute when Alex Underwood played a shot on net. New Hampshire's defense played a vital role in the first half, allowing only two of the eight shots taken by Denver on net.
With one half in the books, the Wildcats and Pioneers were at a 0-0 draw.
Midfielder Riley Ellis (Goffstown, N.H.) opened up the 51st minute of the second half with a shot on net, but Brown kept the 'Cats from getting on the board. Shortly after, Kevin Andino (Germantown, Md.) placed a corner kick into the mixer, but the ball was played away by Denver.
Nabi put more pressure on the Denver keeper in the 68th minute as he ripped a shot, however it went just high of the net. The Pioneers garnered a pair of shots in the 75 minute, the first of which was on net. Brian Hoyt fired a shot at 74:04, but Worra stood tall and made the save. Cole Stevenson fired the second shot, but it went wide of the target.
Mullin played a corner kick into the box for Denver in the 78th minute of play in which Schweitzer connected with for a header attempt, but the shot was blocked by the Wildcat defense. In the 82nd minute of play, Kosta Kordistos got the Pioneers on the board with a goal. AJ Fuller played a cross into the box from inside the 18 yard mark that Kordistos found near the six yard box. He then found the back of the net for the goal.
As the final minutes expired, the Pioneers held on for a 1-0 victory. Worra made a total of three saves on the four shots he faced while Brown saved each of the two shots he faced for Denver.
The Wildcats return home Friday, Sept. 19 as they take on Hofstra at Bremner Field under the lights. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
