DURHAM, N.H. – The top-ranked Boston College women's ice hockey team recorded a 43-12 shot advantage in Saturday afternoon's 10-0 Hockey East victory against the University of New Hampshire at Conte Forum.
UNH is now 3-9-1 overall and 1-5-0 in Hockey East. BC extended its win streak to eight games to remain undefeated at 10-0-1, 6-0-0.
All three UNH goaltenders saw action between the pipes. Vilma Vaattovaara (Veikkola, Finland), in her first game back from the Four Nations Cup, stopped 26 of 30 shots in 30 minutes, 35 seconds. Ashley Wilkes (North Pole, Alaska), who started the previous to games, entered the game with UNH trailing 4-0 at 10:35 of the second period; she made three saves and allowed four goals in a 13:35 relief stint. Marie-Eve Jean (Gatineau, Quebec), in her season debut, stopped four of six shots in 15:33.
Alex Carpenter led 10 BC skaters who recorded multiple points with two goals and two assists. Tori Sullivan (two goals, one assist), Haley Skarupa (1g, 2a) Dana Trivigno (1g, 2a) and Emily field (3a) all tallied three points.
BC goalie Katie Burt stopped six shots in 40 minutes to earn the win. Taylor Blake was credited with six saves in the third period to combine with Burt for the Eagles' second shutout of the Wildcats this season.
Jonna Curtis (Elk River, Minn.), Kayla Mork (Victoria, Minn.) and Ali Praus (Long Lake, Minn.) recorded two shots apiece to account for half of UNH's team total.
Boston College led 2-0 with a 20-3 shot advantage at the first intermission. Carpenter quickly gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead with a goal 19 seconds after the opening faceoff. Kristyn Capizzano netted a power-play goal at 7:29.
BC scored three goals in less than three minutes in the middle stanza to pull away. Trivigno's power-play goal ignited the spurt at 8:59. Skarupa and Sullivan followed with goals 68 seconds apart – at 10:35 and 11:43 – for a 5-0 lead. Kate Leary potted a goal at 18:20 to give the home team a 6-0 lead heading into the second intermission.
Carpenter struck again, this time on the power play, at 2:27 of the third period. Capizzano and Sullivan both scored their second goal of the game in a span of 32 seconds (at 4:10 and 4:42, respectively) and Megan Keller netted a shorthanded goal – the first allowed by UNH this season – at 17:19 to close the scoring.
The 'Cats were scoreless on four power plays while BC finished 3 of 6.
New Hampshire and Boston College conclude the home-and-home series and end the season series Nov. 16 at the Whittemore Center. Start time for the game, which will be televised on LWN/WBIN.2, starts at 2 p.m.
