BOSTON – Four University of New Hampshire field hockey players, led by freshman midfielder Sophie Godwin (London, England) on the All-Conference First Team, received a total of six America East conference accolades on Saturday.
Senior midfielder Louette Petiet (Hoofddorp, Netherlands) and freshman back Lara Pywell (London, England) were named to the All-Conference Second Team.
Godwin and Pywell were joined by classmate Dani Caron (Brentwood, N.H.) on the All-Rookie Team. The Wildcats had the highest number of representatives on the All-Rookie Team.
UNH finished in a three-way tie for second place in the America East standings and the fourth-seeded Wildcats play host to No. 5 University of Vermont in a quarterfinal game Nov. 1 (12pm) at Memorial Field. Admission is free.
Godwin, who started all 12 games in which she played, is UNH's leader in both goals (five) and points (12). The midfielder/forward scored on 5 of 16 shots for a .312 shooting percentage and she put 13 of 16 shots on goal for an .812 shots on goal percentage.
Godwin scored her first – and second – career goal when she lifted UNH from a 3-1 deficit into a 3-3 tie at Maine, and the 'Cats went on to a 4-3 overtime win. Two days later, she scored two more goals in UNH's 2-0 win against the University of New Haven. Godwin also factored in multiple goals vs. UAlbany with a goal and an assist.
Godwin was named America East Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week following her four-goal weekend vs. Maine and New Haven.
Petiet started all 12 games played and has been a fixture at midfield for UNH and she is tied for second on the team in assists (three). She matched her career high of two assists at Temple University and then tallied an assist the next game vs. UAlbany. Petiet, who is often on the defensive penalty corner unit, has also been credited with a defensive save.
Pywell has started all 13 games played 747 minutes. In addition to her defender role, Pywell has been an integral part of both penalty corner units. On offense, she is one of two strikers at the top of the circle and has taken 16 direct shots.
Caron has played all 15 games with 13 starts and a total of 880 minutes. She anchors the defensive unit as the last line of defense in front of the goalkeeper and is also pivotal on both the defensive and offensive penalty corner units.
