BOSTON – Freshman midfielder Sophie Godwin (London, England) of the University of New Hampshire field hockey team was named both the Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week by America East on Tuesday.
Godwin scored four goals for a total of eight points to lead UNH to a 2-0 record last week with a 4-3 overtime win at Maine last Friday (Oct. 9) and 2-0 victory vs. New Haven on Sunday (Oct. 11). Godwin scored two goals in both games to mark the first four goals and points of her career.
With UNH trailing 3-1 at Maine, Godwin scored goals six minutes apart spanning the third and fourth quarters – at 42:18 and 48:21 – to tie the score and the Wildcats went on to win in overtime to improve to 2-0 in America East.
Godwin scored the only two goals of the game in the 2-0 win against New Haven. She broke the scoreless tie by scoring off a rebound at 11:52 and then struck again at 17:36 by sweeping a centering pass into the cage.
Godwin is UNH's leader in goals (four) and she ranks second in points (eight).
