Four 'Cats Score as UNH Downs LIU, 4-0

Kelly Harty netted her team-leading 10th goal of the season in the win
DURHAM, N.H. — The University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team skated to a 4-0 win over Long Island University (6-9-1, 4-8-1 NEWHA) on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 3) at the Whittemore Center at Key Auto Group Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-New Hampshire opened the scoring 12:58 into the opening frame, when Sydney Leonard (St. Bonifacius, Minn.) took a centering feed from Ireland Fredrickson (Concord, N.H.) before connecting in the crease, putting the 'Cats ahead 1-0. Sadie Makokis (St. Albert, Alberta) earned the secondary assist on a pass in the defensive zone.
-Neither team found the back of the net in the second period, with the Wildcats outpacing the Sharks on the shot chart 23-to-4.
-New Hampshire doubled their advantage 3:05 into the third period, when Nina Rossi (Pittsgrove, N.J.) skated through the high slot before finding Alyson Hush (Scarborough, Ontario) in the right face-off circle, who fired past Long Island's Clara Kammholz with one second left on the 5-on-3 to make it 2-0.
-The Wildcats struck again on the power-play just 36 seconds later, when Rossi put away a loose assist from Kristen Hartman (Newmarket, Ontario) in the slot, giving UNH the 3-0 advantage.
-Midway through the frame, Addison Spitz (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) collected the puck behind the LIU net before finding Kelly Harty (Billerica, Mass.) in the slot, who fired past Kammholz for the final 4-0 score.

-On special teams, the Wildcats two for six on the power-play, giving the Wildcats their first multiple power-play goal game since the team's 4-3 overtime loss to Maine on Dec. 5.

-In net, Sedona Blair (Eden Prairie, Minn.) closed her night in net denying all 10 shots faced for her first shutout of the season.
