Men’s Hockey Drops Contest to Northeastern, 5-2

Newcombe and LeClerc each score for the Wildcats
BOSTON – Freshman forward Jacob Newcombe (Sambro, Nova Scotia) and senior alternate captain Cy LeClerc (Brentwood, N.H.) each scored for the Wildcats but the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team fell to Northeastern, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon at Walter Brown Arena on the campus of Boston University in Hockey East action. The Huskies took the two-game series, 2-0, as NU won 4-0 on Friday in Durham.
The Wildcats fall to 11-10-0 (5-6-0 Hockey East), while the Huskies improve to 12-9-0 (7-6-0 Hockey East).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Huskies took a 1-0 lead at 11:08 of the first period when Matthew Maltais knocked in a rebound off a shot by Griffin Erdman.
- Just 2:39 later at 13:47, the Wildcats tied the game at 1-1 when Newcombe stole the puck in the Northeastern zone and then scored from the slot.
- The Huskies went up 2-1 at 18:11 with a goal by Dylan Hryckowian.
- Northeastern started the second period with two straight goals as Eli Sebastian (3:37) and Erdman (3:51) each found the back of the net.
- The 'Cats cut the deficit to 4-2 at 10:43 when LeClerc blasted a one-timer to the back of the net off a pass from junior forward Nick Ring (Hingham, Mass.). Freshman defenseman Conner de Haro (Raleigh, N.C.) also posted an assist on the goal.
- Giacomo Martino clinched the win for the Huskies with an empty net goal at 16:36 of the third period for the 5-2 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- UNH outshot NU, 32-24.
- The Wildcats went 0-3 on the power play while the Huskies went 0-4.
- Senior goalie Jared Whale (Calgary, Alberta) posted 10 saves and allowed four goals during the first 23:48 and senior goalie Kyle Chauvette (Goffstown, N.H.) tallied nine saves, while Lawton Zacher made 30 saves for the Huskies.
