Service Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week: Nicole Poulakis and Matt Vezza

DURHAM, N.H. – Senior Nicole Poulakis (Ajax, Ontario) of the University of New Hampshire field hockey team and sophomore Matt Vezza (Elmhurst, Ill.) of the UNH football team were named the Service Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week on Sept. 29.

Nicole played a major role in the Wildcats' thrilling 7-6 victory over Boston University this past Sunday. Her first goal came in the second quarter bringing the score to a 3-3 tie going into the half. Her second goal came early in the third period once again tying the score this time at 4-4. Later in the game with only 2:02 left for time she scored her third and final goal giving the 'Cats the win and ending the game with a hat-trick. Poulakis extended her goal streak to three and point streak to five games with her three-goal effort.

UNH returns to action beginning America East play at the University of Vermont's Moulton Winder Field on Oct. 3 with game time set for 1 p.m. The next home game for the 'Cat is scheduled for Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. when the Wildcats take on Stonehill.

Matt helped lead the Wildcats to a 24-6 victory over UAlbany this past Saturday. He was responsible for two of New Hampshire's three touchdowns. His first was a six-yard passing touchdown that came with only 28 seconds left in the first half giving UNH a 14-0 advantage at the break. His second came on the ground when he ran up the middle for a three-yard score to increase the lead to 21-0. He was also a very efficient 19-24 passing accumulating 190 yards in the Wildcats' win.

New Hampshire returns to Wildcat Stadium on Oct. 4 (1p.m.) for its Homecoming game against Villanova University.
