UNH Leads America East with 19 Presidential Scholar-Athletes

BOSTON – The University of New Hampshire led all nine America East institutions with 19 Presidential Scholar-Athletes who were recognized for exemplary academic achievement through their college careers. The complete list of 130 honorees was announced Wednesday by the conference.
UNH was followed on the leaderboard by the University of Vermont (18), Bryant University (17), the University of Maine (16) and UMBC (15).
New Hampshire also had a conference-high three student-athletes with a perfect 4.0 GPA; the remaining eight conference schools had a combined total of six.
The America East champion swimming and diving team and America East runner-up women's soccer team led the way for New Hampshire with five Wildcats honored – only two teams in the conference had more than five Presidential Scholar-Athletes.
Megumi Komoto (Schaumburg, Ill.) and Ana O'Neil (St. Paul, Minn.) of the swimming and diving team led all 'Cats with a 4.0 GPA. They were joined as Presidential Scholar-Athletes by teammates Emma Clarke (Avon, N.Y.), Annie Jencova (Waikanae, New Zealand) and Grace Sala (Sun Prairie, Wis.).
The women's soccer honorees are Chloe DeLyser (Marion, N.Y.), Meghan Guarente (Sewell, N.J.), Anna Hewlett (Webster, N.Y.), Megan Logue (Oak Hills, Calif.) and Sally Rainey (West Lebanon, N.H.).
Three members of the men's track and field team were recognized – Kevin Finn (Kennebunk, Maine), Brayden Kearns (Deerfield, N.H.) and Caden Zalenski (Milford, N.H.). Finn and Kearns were also members of the cross country team.
The women's track and field team also had three honorees – Kaitlin Lennox (Hampton Falls, N.H.), Teagan O'Brien (Pawcatuck, Conn.) and the aforementioned O'Neil of the swimming & diving team. Lennox also ran on the cross country team.
Marisa Armer (Bradenton, Fla.) and Shea Purcell (Shaker Heights, Ohio) of the America East championship volleyball team were decorated as Presidential Scholar-Athletes.
Erik Lauta (Aptos, Calif.) of the conference regular-season champion men's soccer team is the third Wildcat who recorded a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Belen Morales Lopez (Alicante, Spain) of the women's basketball team also earned this distinguished honor.
Each of the 130 Presidential Scholar-Athletes earned an undergraduate degree in the 2024-25 academic year with a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher and attended their institution for a minimum of two years.
The Presidential Scholar-Athlete Award started in the 2013-14 academic year and a total of 1,098 elite student-athletes have been honored as part of the program.
America East is proud to have one of most comprehensive academic awards programs in the country that honors over two-thirds of its student-athletes for classroom success, including its sports Scholar-Athletes and All-Academic honorees, Presidential Scholar-Athletes and its Honor Roll Elite 18 recipients.
