Great Danes Spoil Cavanaugh's Return, Defeat UNH 59-32

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University of New Hampshire women's basketball team fell to UAlbany, 59-32, on Thursday evening at the Broadview Center.
Sophomore guard Maggie Cavanaugh (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) returned to action after a nine-game absence, leading UNH with seven points.
The Wildcats drop to 6-10 (0-3 America East), while the Great Danes improve to 13-3 (3-0).

- UNH will stay in New York with a matchup against Binghamton on Saturday, Jan. 11. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. at the Events Center.

- A driving layup by sophomore guard Eva DeChent (Westchester, N.Y.) gave the Wildcats an early 9-5 lead at the 5:50 mark.
- UAlbany responded with a 9-2 run to close the quarter, leading 14-11 lead after one.
- After starting 3-for-5 from the field, the 'Cats made just one of their next eight shots. Strong defense kept them in the game, holding the Great Danes to 5-for-15 shooting in the opening frame.

- UAlbany opened the quarter with a basket, but Cavanaugh answered with a step-back 3-pointer to Bring UNH within two (16-14) at the 7:13 mark.
- The 3-pointer marked Cavanaugh's first field goal since returning from a knee injury suffered on Nov. 20 at Boston College.
- UAlbany went on an 8-0 run to stretch its lead to double digits (24-14) before Cavanaugh hit a mid-range jumper to beat the shot clock, getting the 'Cats within eight at the half.

- The Great Danes scored seven unanswered points to open the second half, prompting a UNH timeout at the 8:07 mark with the Wildcats trailing 31-16.
- UAlbany extended its lead to 20 (40-20) at the media timeout with 3:59 remaining in the third.
- The Great Danes led 46-24 through three quarters.

- UAlbany outscored UNH 13-8 in the final frame to secure the 59-32 win.
