Wildcats Fall to Catamounts at Vermont

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's basketball team fell to Vermont, 72-52, on Saturday afternoon at Patrick Gymnasium.
Sophomore guard Eva DeChent led the Wildcats with 15 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals, while senior forward Belen Morales Lopez added 13 points and eight rebounds.
The Wildcats drop to 6-9 (0-2 America East), while the Catamounts improve to 6-10 (1-1).

first quarter- Vermont jumped out to an 11-8 lead at the first media timeout with 4:52 to go in the first.
- Senior guard Kenzie Matulonis (Raynham, Mass.) and senior forward Clara Gomez (Barcelona, Spain) each hit a 3-pointer, as the 'Cats started 2-for-2 from distance.
- The Catamounts went on an 8-0 run to extend their lead to 19-8 with just over two minutes left in the quarter.
- DeChent ended UNH's scoring drought by sinking a pair of free throws.
- Morales Lopez also added two free throws for the Wildcats, but Vermont closed the quarter ahead 21-12.
second quarter- Vermont used a 9-2 run to extend its lead to 33-17, forcing a UNH timeout at the 4:15 mark.
- DeChent responded with seven straight points to get UNH back within single digits (33-24), but UVM ended the quarter with six unanswered points to take a 39-24 lead at halftime.
- The Catamounts shot a blistering 60% (18-for-30) from the field in the first half, scoring 24 points in the paint.
third quarter- Vermont outscored New Hampshire 24-11 in the third quarter to take a 63-35 lead.
fourth quarter- Freshman guard Elizabeth Lavoie (Derry, N.H.) knocked down a 3-pointer to cut the lead below 20 (67-48) with 4:06 remaining in the game.
- The Wildcats outscored the Catamounts 17-9 in the final frame, but UVM stayed in control to win it 72-52.
