UNH Edged 3-2 in Overtime by #13 Northeastern

DURHAM, N.H. – Freshman goalie Sedona Blair (Eden Prairie, Minn.) made 25 saves but the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team fell 3-2 in overtime against 13th-ranked Northeastern University at the Whittemore Center at Key Auto Group Complex.
Senior forward Nicole Kelly (Brantford, Ontario) and junior forward Kira Juodikis (LaSalle, Ontario) each scored a goal for the Wildcats.
Rae Breton (Brighton, Ontario), Brianna Legros (New Liskeard, Ontario) Sydney Leonard (St. Bonifacius, Minn.),and Annie Berry (Milton, Mass.) all recorded assists.
Blair recorded 25 saves, including two in overtime.
Northeastern goalie Gwyneth Philips recorded 26 saves. Katy Knoll, Peyton Anderson, and Jules Constantinople all scored for the Huskies.
UNH fell to 12-13-2 overall and 9-9-2 in Hockey East. Northeastern is now 19-9-1 overall and 12-7-1 in the league.

UP NEXT
- UNH and Northeastern will rematch on Feb. 3, in Boston, Mass. at Matthews Arena. The game will be broadcast on NESN.
- The 'Cats will return to Durham on Saturday, February 10, when they take on Merrimack College on "Stick it to the Stigma" day.
FIRST PERIOD
- UNH recorded a 10-9 shot advantage in the period and skated to a 2-1 lead.
- Seven minutes in, Northeastern got the advantage after a UNH interference penalty. With less than 30 seconds left on the penalty, the Huskies got a great look on a loose rebound, but Blair made a sliding pad save to keep the score even. The 'Cats ended up killing the penalty behind Blair's five saves.
- At 10:44, the 'Cats took a hooking penalty, however, NU could only muster one shot on goal this time, which was stopped by Blair.
- Kelly found the back of a wide-open net at 13:46 after Breton's shot was redirected, giving the 'Cats the first goal of the game. Legros was also credited with an assist on the goal.
- UNH took a 5-on-3 advantage at 15:30 after two interference penalties on the Huskies. At 16:24, Juodikis put the 'Cats up 2-0 on the backhand after deking past an NU defender. Leonard had the primary assist and Berry the secondary.
- With eight seconds left in the period, Northeastern's Knoll cut the Huskies' deficit to just one.
SECOND PERIOD
- UNH held the shot advantage again, 8-7. Neither team scored a goal in the second stanza, as the 'Cats retained their 2-1 lead.
- Three minutes into the period, Northeastern took a holding penalty but UNH did not record any shots on goal. However, as soon as that penalty ended, Northeastern was whistled for another penalty.
- The shorthanded Huskies managed to get a great look on the net, and another on the rebound, but Blair denied them both. UNH had a strong look on an attempt in front of the net, but it was saved by Philips, who stopped both UNH shots on that power play.
- UNH pushed the puck after winning a defensive zone faceoff late in the period, and with 30 seconds left, Chavonne Truter (Uxbridge, Ontario) got an open attempt in front of the net but was denied by Philips.
THIRD PERIOD
- UNH outshot Northeastern again, 10-9, but surrendered a goal in the third period. That goal was the only of the final frame and the game went into overtime tied at 2 apiece.
- UNH took a tripping penalty 39 seconds into the period, and just 18 seconds later Anderson evened the score for the Huskies on a rebound at the right post after Blair stopped the Constantiople's initial shot from the right point.
- The 'Cats gained the advantage at 4:13 on a Northeastern interference penalty. Marina Alvarez (Center Moriches, N.Y.) took a shot on the doorstep late into the penalty but could not get it past Philips. UNH had three shots total on the power play.
- With 2:58 remaining in the period, Shea Verrier (Reading, Mass.) received a pass in front of the crease for the Wildcats' best look of the period, but Philips came up huge with her glove for the Huskies.
- UNH's Alvarez and Truter defended the net with back-to-back blocks on Northeastern shots in the final two minutes of the period.
- The Huskies called a timeout with 19.0 seconds to play preceding an offensive zone faceoff but could not get a shot on goal.
OVERTIME
- Northeastern scored at 1:02 of the period to win the game 3-2.
- About a minute into the overtime period, Northeastern stole the puck in the neutral zone which led to a 2-on-1 in which Constantinople netted the game-winning goal from the top of the crease.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- The two sides tied with 28 shots on goal apiece.
- UNH dominated in the faceoff circle, 37-26.
- Northeastern led with 18 blocked shots to the Wildcats' 12.
- Both teams scored a power-play goal. New Hampshire was 1-for-5 and the visitors converted 1 of 3 chances.

- Kelly, Juodikis, and Berry all extended their point streaks to two games.
- Kelly the 'Cats with six shots on goal.
- UNH had two players win double-digit faceoff wins. Kelly led all skaters with 13 and Verrier had 10.
