Gomez Scores Career-High 25 Points, Notches First Double-Double

EASTON, Mass. – The University of New Hampshire women's basketball team closed out non-conference play with a commanding 74-57 win over Stonehill on Monday night at Merkert Gymnasium.

Senior forward Clara Gomez (Barcelona, Spain) led the Wildcats with a career-high 25 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and two steals, marking the first double-double of her career.

Freshman guard Elizabeth Lavoie (Derry, N.H.) delivered a breakout performance, scoring a career-high 18 points off the bench on 7-for-8 shooting, including 4-for-5 from beyond the arc.

The Wildcats improve to 6-7, while the Skyhawks drop to 4-9.

first quarter

Stonehill took a 10-7 lead at the first media timeout with 3:02 remaining.
UNH responded with an 8-0 run sparked by Gomez, who converted an and-one and assisted Lavoie for a 3-pointer, giving the Wildcats a 15-10 lead.
The Skyhawks closed the quarter with a late 3-pointer, but UNH held a 15-13 edge after one.

second quarter

The Wildcats opened on an 8-2 run, extending their lead to 23-15 at the 7:58 mark.
Stonehill countered with an 8-0 run, tying the score at 23-23.
The teams traded baskets as UNH took a narrow 31-30 lead into halftime.
Lavoie was a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range, scoring nine points in nine minutes off the bench in the first half for the Wildcats.

third quarter

Lavoie started the second half and scored seven of UNH's first 11 points to give the 'Cats a 42-37 lead midway through the quarter.
Gomez dominated late in the frame, scoring seven straight points to push the lead to 49-39.
With 16 seconds left Gomez converted her sixth field goal of the game, giving UNH a 54-45 advantage heading into the fourth.

fourth quarter

Gomez started the quarter with a 3-pointer off a pick-and-pop with sophomore guard Eva DeChent (Westchester, N.Y.), extending the lead to 57-45.
Lavoie added a layup at the 5:39 mark to stretch the margin to 65-53, capping her career night.
UNH outscored Stonehill 9-4 in the final five minutes to seal the victory.
