Wildcats Unable to Overcome Howard's Hot Shooting

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of New Hampshire women's basketball team fell to Howard, 76-55, on Saturday afternoon at Burr Gymnasium.
Sophomore Eva DeChent (Westchester, N.Y.) and junior Diana Eliasson (Stockholm, Sweden) each scored 13 points, but Howard's impressive shooting from the field (27-for-55) and from beyond the arc (12-for-19) proved too much for the 'Cats to overcome.
The Wildcats drop to 4-3, while the Bison improve to 4-2.

- Graduate student Sydney Lusher (Oneida, N.Y.) and DeChent combined for 11 points, each hitting a 3-pointer, while senior Kenzie Matulonis (Raynham, Mass.) added the Wildcats' other bucket.

- Matulonis and junior Lucia Melero Sabat (Barcelona, Spain) opened the second quarter with back-to-back 3-pointers for the Wildcats
- UNH continued its strong shooting from beyond the arc as Eliasson hit the team's fifth three of the half, tying the game at 24 with 5:42 left.
- The Bison responded with an 8-0 run to take a 32-24 lead at the 2:20 mark. Lusher ended the drought with her second 3-pointer of the day, becoming the first Wildcat to reach double figures with 10 points.
- Howard closed the half on a 6-0 run to take a 38-27 lead into the locker room.

- The Bison maintained control as the teams traded points early in the second half. A Howard 3-pointer at the 5:34 mark extended their lead to 50-35.
- Six of the Wildcats first eight points came from the free throw line to start the second half.
- The 'Cats cut the deficit to 12 on two occasions, however, the Bison responded each time, preventing UNH from closing the gap to single digits.
- Howard ended the quarter with another 3-pointer, taking a 57-40 lead through three.

- The Bison opened the final frame on a decisive 12-2 run, pushing their lead to 27 (69-42) with 5:47 left in the game.
- Howard stayed in the driver's seat, winning it 76-55.

- DeChent scored in double figures for the seventh consecutive game to open the season. She also tied her career high with three steals.
- Eliasson's 13 points and eight rebounds both mark career highs.
- Lusher scored a season-high 10 points on 4-for-8 shooting.
- Matulonis chipped in with eight points, knocking down a season-high two 3-pointers.
