Laube, Lepkowski Score Two TDs Each in 54-51 OT Loss to Towson

UNH's Nick Mazzie (Boxford, Mass.) kicked a 20-yard field goal on the first possession of overtime to give the Wildcats a 51-48 lead. Towson responded with a two-yard touchdown run by Devin Matthews on 3rd-and-goal to lift the Tigers to victory.
Dylan Laube (Westhampton, N.Y.) led the Wildcats with 92 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns. Max Brosmer (Roswell, Ga.) completed 25 passes for 340 yards and two TDs.
Kyle Lepkowski (Adamstown, Md.) recovered a fumble in the end zone for the first touchdown of the game, caught the ensuing two-point conversion for the Wildcats and also had a TD reception. He finished with four catches for 60 yards. Caleb Burke (Johnstown, Pa.) scored one touchdown and had 84 receiving yards, the most from the 'Cats.
Ryan Toscano (Bedford, N.H.) led all players with a season-high 13. Cornerback Charles Briscoe III (Bowie, Md.) blocked two kicks, including a punt that he recovered in the end zone for a TD, and also forced a fumble.
Matthews was the Tigers' top ground gainer with 18 rushes for 116 yards and two touchdowns. D'Ago Hunter also had 116 yards on 17 carries and also had seven catches for 72 yards. Nathan Kent threw for 236 yards five TDs. Carter Runyon had a team-high 83 receiving yards with one touchdown.
Dorian Davis and Makye Smith led the Tigers' defense in tackles with nine apiece.
Both teams now have a 2-3 overall record. UNH is 0-2 in the CAA and Towson is 1-1.

FIRST QUARTER
- Laube rushed two yards to the Towson 1-yard line and fumbled, but the ball was picked up by Lepkowski in the end zone for a touchdown at 9:04.
- Noah Stansbury (Orange, N.J.) intercepted Towson on the UNH 12-yard line at 5:24.
- On the next 'Cat possession, however, the Tigers recovered the ball at the UNH 41 after Brosmer was sacked resulting in a fumble at 2:18.
- Towson's Matthews scored a 7-yard touchdown run at 1:03, but Randall Harris (Walled Lake, Mich.) blocked the PAT to keep the score 8-6.
SECOND QUARTER
- Towson scored on a 15-yard TD pass from Kent to Zay Perkins 2:56 into the quarter and the PAT kick gave the visitors a 13-8 lead.
- Mazzie made a 26-yard field goal at 9:54 to lift the 'Cats within 13-11.
- Kent connected with Perkins for an 8-yard touchdown at 3:53 and the PAT kick extended the advantage to 20-11.
- Lepkowski caught a 14-yard pass from Brosmer with 1:34 left in the quarter but the PAT kick sailed wide right to keep the score 20-17.
- Towson scored another 15-yard TD pass, this time from Kent to Carter Runyon, with 19 seconds left in the half and the PAT kick was successful for a 27-17 lead.
- Laube returned the ensuing kickoff 61 yards and Towson was flagged for a personal foul to give UNH 1st-and-10 at the TU 24 with nine seconds on the clock.
- Mazzie made a 41-yard field goal as time expired to trim the deficit to 27-20.
THIRD QUARTER
- Towson kicked a 32-yard field goal 4:50 into the quarter to reestablish a 10-point lead, 30-20.
- The Wildcats scored a touchdown by Burke on a three-yard pass from Brosmer at 6:09 and the PAT by Mazzie made it 30-27.
- Laube scored a TD with a 5-yard rush at 1:22 at Mazzie's PAT kick gave UNH a 34-30 lead.
FOURTH QUARTER
- On the third play of the quarter, Laube's16-yard rush for a Wildcat touchdown and PAT gave UNH a 41-30 lead at 14:04.
- Towson scored a 24-yard touchdown and had a successful a two-point conversion at 11:34 to pull withing 41-38.
- Briscoe III blocked the Towson punt in the end zone and recovered the loose ball in for a Wildcat touchdown at 8:12. Mazzie made the PAT to advance the score to 48-38.
- Keegan Vaughan made a 24-yard field goal with 3:43 left in the quarter to make it a one possession game, 48-41.
- Towson got the ball back the TU 10 with 1:46 remaining and scored a touchdown on a 15-yard pass to Lukkas Londono with 24 seconds left and Vaughan's PAT tied the score at 48.
- The Wildcats had 1st-and-10 at the UNH 41 with 20 seconds on the clock. An 18-yard pass play and 11-yard run by Brosmer gave the 'Cats 1st-and-10 at the TU 30 with one second remaining.
- Antonio Howard blocked Mazzie's 47-yard field goal attempt to send the game to overtime.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- Towson had a 561-468 edge in total yards of offense and had the slight edge in time of possession (31:22).
- Zedane Williams (Springfield, Mass.) finished with seven tackles to surpass 100 career tackles; his current total is 106.
- Laube, who entered the game as the national leader in all-purpose yards per game, finished with 251, more than half of which (130 yards) were on six kickoff returns.
- Laube increased his career rushing yards total to 2,427, which ranks 10th in program history.
- This was the first overtime game in Wildcat Stadium, which opened for the 2016 season. The only other overtime game in Durham was November 26, 1994, against Appalachian State in Cowell stadium.
- New Hampshire has a 7-7 record in games decided by overtime.
- UNH has an 11-4 edge in the all-time series against Towson, and that includes 4-2 at home with a 2-1 mark at Wildcat Stadium.
