Poulakis Strikes Again in 5-1 Loss at #11 Boston College

NEWTON, Mass. – Sophomore Nicole Poulakis (Ajax, Ontario) extended her goal-scoring streak to four goals but the University of New Hampshire field hockey team was defeated 5-1 by 11th-ranked Boston College at Field Hockey Complex on Sunday.
Jemma Woods (Frimley, England) made 11 saves and allowed five goals in 53 minutes, 42 seconds. Mariana Birdthistle (Limerick, Ireland) played the final 6:18 and was credited with one save.
BC was led offensively by Margo Carlin and Eva Kluskens, both of whom tallied a goal and an assist. Starting goalie Caroline Kelly was not credited with a save before exiting the game at 49:05. Emily Gillespie surrendered a goal on the only shot on goal she faced the final 10:55.
UNH, which entered the game on a three-game winning streak, is now 6-3. BC is also 6-3.

FIRST QUARTER
- BC recorded a 10-1 shot advantage with a 3-0 edge in penalty corners in the opening 15 minutes, but Woods stopped all four shots on target to keep the game tied 0-0.
SECOND QUARTER
- UNH was awarded a corner at 19:19, but the shot off the stick of Lindsay Lee (Eindhoven, Netherlands) was blocked by a BC defender.
- The Eagles finally broke through on Pia Serowik's goal at 22:51.
- BC earned a corner less than one minute later, but Woods denied Carlin to keep it a one-goal differential.
- The Wildcats had a corner as time expired in the half, but the shot by Tasmin Cookman (Woking, England) was blocked.
THIRD QUARTER
- Boston College converted a corner into a Claire Jones goal and 2-0 lead at 40:32.
- Klusken's tally at 42:44 extended the advantage to 3-0.
FOURTH QUARTER
- Poulakis' unassisted goal lifted UNH within 3-1 at 50:25.
- Carlin responded with a goal less than two minutes later, however, to reestablished a three-goal lead of 4-1 at 52:01.
- Kara Heck pushed the margin to 5-1 at 53:42, which prompted UNH to make a goalie change.
- Birdthistle blocked aside Juliette Hijdra's shot with 2:35 remaining.

- BC finished with the edge in shots (29-6), shots on goal (17-2) and corners (10-3).
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Poulakis extended her goal-scoring streak to four games; she also has three assists in that span for a total of 11 points.
- She is tied for the team lead with 19 points and is atop the assist leaderboard with five; she ranks second in goals (seven).
- The 11 saves marked a season high for Woods. It marked the 14th time in her career that Woods finished with double-digit saves.
