The Wildcats have made six straight NCAA Tournament appearances.
DURHAM, N.H. - University of New Hampshire head men's soccer coach Marc Hubbard has announced the incoming class for the 2023 season: Atila Ashrafi (Cologne, Germany), Nick Awada (Westford, Mass.), Henrik Boer (Oegstgeest, Netherlands), Cameron Briggs (Oconomowoc, Wis.), Austin Bush (Southampton, Mass.), Eddy Fandunyan (Manchester, N.H.), Aaron Fernandez (London, England), Baptiste Gateau (Rennes, France), Michael Gouvin (Monson, Mass.), Joseba Incera (Santurtzi, Spain), Georgios Koliniatis (Athens, Greece), Dominik Kurija (Munich, Germany), Brady Lewis (Hampton, N.H.), Iñaki Rodríguez (Santiago, Chile) and Harrison Solomon (Burton on Trent, England).
"We are very excited to welcome these 15 new players to Durham," said Hubbard. "Overall, this class is very diverse in qualities that when combined with our returners, will provide us with the necessary talent and depth to repeat and hopefully surpass last season's success. Following the Spring season, we felt that we needed to get much stronger defensively and we achieved that, but this class is extremely balanced all over the field. However, the biggest asset of this group is the character and discipline they have displayed throughout the recruiting process. All are motivated to begin a new era and add to our established strong family culture."
The No. 23 nationally-ranked Wildcats kick off the 2023 season on Thursday, Aug. 24 at VCU at 8:15 p.m. The home-opener is versus Boston University on Sunday, Aug. 27 at 5 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium. UNH went 15-4-1 (.775) overall in the 2022 season and was ranked No. 21 in the final United Soccer Coaches National Poll. UNH won its fourth America East Tournament championship to advance to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth consecutive year and seventh time overall as UNH defeated Seton Hall, 2-1, in the first round at Wildcat Stadium.
"Counting mid-year additions, there will be 18 players who will be in their first preseason at UNH," said Hubbard. "Our initial challenge as a staff will be to institute our tactics to so many new faces and get everyone up to speed with our values and standards. Throughout the season, our primary mission will be to mold all the players into one unified force focused on a shared purpose. I trust that our returners and leadership are in a very good place to assist our staff and meet these challenges head on. We look forward to having another great Fall in New Hampshire."
2023 UNH MEN'S SOCCER INCOMING CLASS
ATILA ASHRAFI

COACH HUBBARD: "Atila is a tall and rangy midfielder that can run and cover ground for 90 minutes. We are very excited about this versatility and look forward to incorporating his two-way game into our style of play. Atila has had a good summer of playing for the reigning USL2 national champions and we believe this will immediately translate into our program this Fall."
NICK AWADA

COACH HUBBARD: "Nick is a player that for most of his career was playing as a lone forward so his back to goal game is one of his best attributes. Nick is a very hard worker, likes physicality and running at his defender. We look forward to improving his ability to combine with others and feel that his work ethic and character fit in perfectly with our culture up front."
HENRIK BOER

COACH HUBBARD: "Henrik is an exceptional human being that has gone above and beyond in his commitment to be a Wildcat. Henrik is college ready from a physical standpoint and we believe has the versatility to play anywhere on the field. Initially we believe that he will provide some good depth in positions that will rely on his speed to get up and down. There is no doubt that our locker room will be much stronger with Henrik in it."
CAMERON BRIGGS

COACH HUBBARD: "Cam's process began very late and it did not take long to recognize that he was very mature and possesses great experience playing in several positions along the back line. Cam's best attribute is his athletic recovery and 1v1 defending which is something we were very much in need of. He is motivated to continue his career after this season and we look forward to helping him accomplish all of his goals."
AUSTIN BUSH

COACH HUBBARD: "Austin is a physically ready attacking player that has a good shift and 1v1 ability for a true first-year player. Austin's ability to create and finish attacking chances in a variety of ways makes him a player that fits our style of play very well in the final-third. At UNH, Austin will continue to enhance his pace of play and standards, and we are certain that with the right development, he will be a player that we can rely on to create special moments in the future."
EDDY FANDUNYAN

COACH HUBBARD: "Eddy is someone right away you can recognize on the field because of his work rate and ability to press and run off the ball. With the ball, he is very fluid and can move well in possession but also when running at defenders. Eddy has passion and couldn't be more excited to play in front of his family and friends every week. Eddy's desire and commitment to getting better are unmatched and we look forward to seeing him continue to develop in our program."
AARON FERNANDEZ

COACH HUBBARD: "Aaron is a strong, physical defender with high-level collegiate experience who will inject excellent leadership into our program. Aaron commands the backline and the players in front of him very well and his entry ball passing will be an asset in how we attack. Throughout his process, Aaron has shown his qualities as a person and someone who we know will contribute both on and off the field for UNH."
BAPTISTE GATEAU

COACH HUBBARD: "Baptiste is extremely calm on the ball, two footed and very good at building from the back. He has good size, smart anticipation qualities and has had a lot of success at the NAIA level. This winning competitive spirit and confidence is definitely what our team requires to sustain and build off of our success last season. Baptiste's quality and experience will make him a valuable member of our backline and someone who we feel will be able to contribute in a significant way to helping us toward our goals."
MICHAEL GOUVIN

COACH HUBBARD: "Michael is someone that will bring his full energy and passion into every session, game and moment. Michael is an outstanding 1v1 defender who we see developing into a hard-working, impactful member of our backline in years to come. Michael and his family truly understand what it means to be a Wildcat and I know this support will help our team in many ways. I look forward to seeing Michael grow in our program."
JOSEBA INCERA

COACH HUBBARD: "Joseba is a very technical keeper with a nice profile who has four years of Division I starter experience and has consistently ranked in the top of college soccer in saves per game. We look forward to adding his maturity and leadership to the goalkeeping core."
GEORGIOS KOLINIATIS

COACH HUBBARD: "Georgios is someone that we identified very early in the process that fits all the characteristics we look for in our strikers: Hardworking, selfless, good back to goal, can create chances on his own and can finish in a variety of ways. He has already had a very productive career but along with his USL2 experience, we know that he will translate right away in his last year of eligibility to our program. We look forward to having such a driven player and person join our locker room."
DOMINIK KURIJA

COACH HUBBARD: "Dominik is a very driven and confident player who likes to build and dribble out of the back. He has good endurance to run up and down the field and is very proficient in his crossing with both feet. Dom has a winning personality and the right amount of self-assurance that I believe you need when looking to achieve new things in our program. His commitment to excel and achieve his goals are something I hope our younger players can pick up on his short stint with the Wildcats."
BRADY LEWIS

COACH HUBBARD: "Brady is a local student-athlete who has been pivotal in the recent success of Seacoast United Academy. Brady is an exceptionally intelligent midfielder with great ball control and a tireless work ethic to win every loose ball. He is someone that is very proud to be from New Hampshire and this will show consistently every time he steps on the field for the Wildcats."
IÑAKI RODRÍGUEZ

COACH HUBBARD: "Iñaki is a creative and intelligent player that can not only assist others but can score as well. His ability to link up our team will be an incredible asset. As a former captain and four-year division one player, we are very excited to see what Inaki can do at Wildcat Stadium this Fall."
HARRISON SOLOMON

COACH HUBBARD: "Harrison is a talented center-back coming to us with a wealth of experience playing for Derby County. He has the ability to read and anticipate the game at a high level as well as the technical ability to play an important role in our attacking play. We believe that Harrison has all of the tools needed to be another elite level center-back for us here at UNH."
