‘Cats End Season with Deepest Playoff Run Since 2017, Falling at UMass Lowell 75-64

LOWELL, Mass. – The University of New Hampshire men's basketball team season came to an end Tuesday night as they fell in the semifinals of the Jersey Mike's America East Playoff's at the Costello Athletic Center to UMass Lowell, 75-64.
With the loss, UNH falls to 15-15 (10-8 AE) and UMass Lowell improves to 26-7 (12-5 AE).

FIRST HALF
- Junior Clarence Daniels (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) netted the first bucket of the game with a second-chance putback.
- The Wildcats took a four-point lead five minutes into the game after a tough layup in the paint from junior Kyree Brown (Oakland, Calif.) made it 11-7.
- The Riverhawks responded with a 6-1 run to take a 13-12 lead with 12:20 remaining in the first half.
- Junior Nick Johnson (Bronx, N.Y.) scored his sixth point of the first half to reclaim the lead for UNH at 17-16.
- UMass Lowell made their next two shots from long range to score six points unanswered as the Riverhawks took their largest lead of the half, 22-17.
- Brown and Johnson each converted on three-pointers, but UML responded with a pair of threes and a layup to hold a 30-23 lead with 3:24 remaining in the first frame.
- A layup from Everett Hammond gave the River Hawks a 34-25 lead but the 'Cats closed out the half on an 8-0 run with all eight points coming off of turnovers.
- Johnson led UNH with 13 points as UMass Lowell led 34-33 at the break with Allin Blunt leading the Riverhawks with 12 points.
SECOND HALF
- Both teams traded buckets to open the half with Everette Hammond making a shot from the mid-range for UML and Brown finishing a contested layup for the Wildcats.
- UMass Lowell knocked down four free throws to take a 40-37 lead when Daniels spotted up from the top of the key and hit a game-tying three with just under 17 minutes left to play.
- Freshman Ridvan Tutic (Novi Pazar, Serbia) gave the 'Cats their first lead since 9:21 in the first half with a fast break layup that put UNH ahead 49-47.
- The Riverhawks scored the next four points to go back out in front, 51-49, with 12:45 on the clock.
- Brown drilled a stepback three to give the 'Cats a 54-52 lead just over halfway through the second frame.
- UMass Lowell responded with a 9-2 run to take their biggest lead of the second half, 61-57.
- The Riverhawks maintained their lead, 65-60, as Daniels fouled out of the ballgame with 4:03 left to play.
- A UMass Lowell three-pointer with 1:04 left to play put the game out of reach as their lead rose to 10 points, 72-62.
- The final score ended 75-64 in favor of the Riverhawks as the UNH season comes to an end and UMass Lowell punches a trip to the America East Championship
NOTEWORTHY
- UNH leads the all-time series with UMass Lowell, holding a 14-9 lifetime record. The River Hawks have now won the past two meetings with the Wildcats.
- Johnson recorded a career-high four steals to go along with a game-high 21 points. His 21 points also ties a career-high he set earlier this season.
- Brown scored 15 points and dished out a game-high seven assists.
- Daniels ends his impressive season with 12 points and seven rebounds in just 26 minutes of action.
- Graduate student Matt Herasme (Chester, N.Y.) led the 'Cats on the glass with eight boards.
- UNH outscored UML 13-7 in second chance points thanks to an 11-6 advantage in offensive rebounds.
- This was the deepest playoff run for the Wildcats since the 2016-17 season when they fell at Vermont in the America East Semifinals.
- There were 11 lead changes and 11 ties in a game that was tight up until the final minute of the game.
- UMass Lowell appears in their first America East Championship game since joining the conference in 2013.
- The Riverhawks finish their season with a 17-0 record at home.
- Allin Blunt led UML with 19 points while Everette Hammond finished with 17 points and nine rebounds in the win.
