Daniels Records 14th Double-Double as 'Cats Sweep Regular Season Series with Maine
DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's basketball team defeated the University of Maine Wednesday night at Lundholm Gymnasium, 74-62, as junior Clarence Daniels (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) notched his 14th double-double of the season in a Buffalo Wild Border Battle game.
With the win, UNH improves to 13-13 (8-6 AE) and Maine falls to 11-16 (5-9 AE).

FIRST HALF
- Junior Nick Johnson (Bronx, N.Y) started off the scoring for the Wildcats with a reverse layup to put the 'Cats up 2-0. Johnson followed up the scoring with a three-pointer to extend the lead to five in the opening minute.
- After a few scoreless possessions from the Black Bears, Kellen Tynes opened the scoring for Maine with a two-point jumper to cut the lead to 5-2 with 17:00 left in the half.
- Graduate student Matt Herasme (Chester, N.Y) started his scoring night off with a drive to the rim finishing with a layup to extend the lead to 3. The next possession Herasme hit a three-pointer as the Wildcats led 22-19 with 10:12 remaining.
- Graduate student Jaxson Baker (Phoenix, Ariz) handled a bullet pass from junior Kyree Brown (Oakland, Calif.) and drained a wide-open three to give UNH their largest lead of the game at eight points.
- The Black Bears chipped away at their deficit as time wound down in the first half, trimming the Wildcat lead to one point with 2:19 remaining.
- Brown made a quick move as he split three defenders in the paint to net a layup as time ticked away in the first half.
- At the end of the opening frame, UNH led Maine, 35-30.
SECOND HALF
- Daniels started the 'Cats off in the second half with a layup over a Black Bear defender in the lane and followed it up by drawing a foul on a three-pointer, netting two of his three free throws to give the Wildcats a nine-point lead.
- Herasme knocked down his second three of the game to bring the 'Cats lead up to ten points, 50-40 with 10:46 left in regulation.
- Johnson showed off his strength with a driving layup through the lane as UNH led 57-46 with 6:33 left.
- Brown gave the 'Cats their largest lead of the contest after a driving layup made the score 59-46 with under six minutes left to play.
- Johnson netted a team-high third three-pointer from the corner to push the scoring margin to 64-46 with 4:17 remaining.
- The Black Bears responded with an 8-0 run to cut their deficit to ten points with 49 seconds to go in the second half.
- The Wildcats held on to win as UNH defeated Maine 74-62 as the final buzzer sounded.
NOTEWORTHY
- UNH now holds an 80-123 record all-time when taking on Maine. The Wildcats have now won eight consecutive home games when hosting the Black Bears.
- The 'Cats are now 12-4 this season when leading at halftime and 12-1 when leading with 5:00 minutes remaining in the game.
- Johnson tallied his fourth 20-point game of the season and his first since Jan. 14 vs. Bryant.
- Daniels secured his 14th double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds; he now is tied for 10th in the country in total double-doubles.
- Brown netted 15 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds.
- This is the first time the 'Cats have swept Maine in the regular season since the 2019-20 season.
- Both teams ended the contest with 29 rebounds each.
- UNH is 7-0 when scoring between 70-79 points.
- The Black Bears were led by Kellen Tynes who scored 18 points on 9 for 11 shooting from the field.
