COLLEGE PARK, Md. – With the Wildcats trailing 2-0, senior midfielder Bilal Kamal (London, England) scored the first goal of the season with 7:21 remaining in the second half, but UNH was unable to find the equalizer as the No. 9 University of New Hampshire men's soccer team fell to No. 20 Maryland, 2-1, in the season opener on Thursday night at Ludwig Field in the first-ever matchup between the two programs.

The Wildcats start the season 0-1-0, while the Terrapins begin 1-0-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Terrapins took a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute (13:22) when Hunter George sent a one-timer from six yards out to the upper right corner of the net off a header from Griffin Dillon.
Senior goalkeeper Jassem Koleilat (Dubai, United Arab Emirates) made three saves for the Wildcats during the first half.
Colin Griffith scored the eventual game winner in the 75th minute (74:21) when he knocked in a pass from Joshua Bolma to the lower left side of the goal.
Kamal netted UNH's first goal of the season in the 83rd minute (82:47) when he blasted a shot from 14 yards out to the bottom right corner.
The Wildcats were unable to score again for the 2-1 final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Each team took nine shots, while the Terrapins had five shots on goal and UNH had one.
The Terrapins attempted four corner kicks, while the Wildcats took three.
Koleilat made three saves for UNH.
