#9 Wildcats Fall to #20 Maryland, 2-1, In Season Opener

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – With the Wildcats trailing 2-0, senior midfielder Bilal Kamal (London, England) scored the first goal of the season with 7:21 remaining in the second half, but UNH was unable to find the equalizer as the No. 9 University of New Hampshire men's soccer team fell to No. 20 Maryland, 2-1, in the season opener on Thursday night at Ludwig Field in the first-ever matchup between the two programs.
The Wildcats start the season 0-1-0, while the Terrapins begin 1-0-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Terrapins took a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute (13:22) when Hunter George sent a one-timer from six yards out to the upper right corner of the net off a header from Griffin Dillon.
- Senior goalkeeper Jassem Koleilat (Dubai, United Arab Emirates) made three saves for the Wildcats during the first half.
- Colin Griffith scored the eventual game winner in the 75th minute (74:21) when he knocked in a pass from Joshua Bolma to the lower left side of the goal.
- Kamal netted UNH's first goal of the season in the 83rd minute (82:47) when he blasted a shot from 14 yards out to the bottom right corner.
- The Wildcats were unable to score again for the 2-1 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Each team took nine shots, while the Terrapins had five shots on goal and UNH had one.
- The Terrapins attempted four corner kicks, while the Wildcats took three.
- Koleilat made three saves for UNH.
