Four 'Cats Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large Team

DURHAM, N.H. – University of New Hampshire student-athletes Jasmine Lyons (Ottawa, Ontario), Anna Metzler (Regensburg, Germany) and Lisa Olsson (Stockholm, Sweden) were named to the 2021-22 Academic All-District Women's At-Large Team, and fellow Wildcat Will Bruneau-Bouchard (Quebec City, Quebec) was voted to the 2021-22 Academic All-District Men's At-Large Team. The announcement was made Thursday by CoSIDA.
All four Wildcats – three skiers and one swimmer – advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot; a total of 80 men's and 80 women's honorees – 10 in each of the eight districts – were named to an All-District At-Large Team. First, second and third team Academic All-America honorees will be announced mid-June.
Bruneau-Bouchard has a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade-point average in pursuit of a master's degree in business analytics; he finished with a 3.89 cumulative GPA as an undergrad. Bruneau-Bouchard has been named to the National Collegiate All-Academic Ski Team, which honors skiers with a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, all five years as a Wildcat. He is also a two-time inductee into Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society, for having good moral character and a cum GPA of 3.50 or higher.
On the slopes as an alpine skier, Bruneau-Bouchard placed 18th in the slalom and 20th in the giant slalom at the 2022 NCAA Skiing Championships. As the eighth-ranked EISA men's alpine skier, he was named to the EISA All-East Second Team; he was ranked No. 6 in men's slalom.
Bruneau-Bouchard excelled at the Colby Carnival, where he raced to second place in the slalom and fourth place in the giant slalom. He capped the EISA season with eighth place in the giant slalom and ninth in the slalom at the regional championships. As a junior in 2021, Bruneau-Bouchard earned a spot on the All-America Second Team by virtue of eighth place in the slalom at the NCAAs.
Lyons is a sophomore Nordic skier majoring in biomedical science: medical microbiology with a 3.98 cumulative GPA. She has made the National Collegiate All-Academic Ski Team both years as a Wildcat.
Lyons recorded two All-America performances at the 2022 NCAA Skiing Championships. She raced to third place in the Nordic freestyle to earn All-America First Team status and eighth place in the classic for a spot on the All-America Second Team. Lyons is the first UNH skier to record a pair of All-America finishes in one year since 2019 and the first Nordic skier to accomplish the feat since 2017. Also of note, Lyons' third-place finish marked the top effort by a Wildcat at the NCAAs the past decade.
Lyons was named to the 2022 EISA All-East First Team as the fourth-ranked women's Nordic skier; she was No. 2 in freestyle and No. 8 in classic. She won the 10K free at the Dartmouth Carnival and was runner-up in that event at the Saint Michael's Carnival.
Including the NCAAs, Lyons was a Top-15 finisher eight times with five finishes inside the Top 10 and four in the Top 5.
Metzler has a 3.95 cumulative GPA while pursuing an undergraduate degree in biomedical science. The senior has been named the America East Women's Swimming and Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year each of the past three years (2020, 2021 and 2022); she was also voted to the America East All-Academic Team those three years and was the recipient of the America East Elite 18 Award in 2021 for having the highest cumulative GPA at the conference championship.
Metzler is another two-time inductee into Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society for having good moral character and a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher as a junior and senior.
Metzler is a three-time NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships qualifier (2020, 2021, 2022) who competed in three events at this year's NCAA championship meet. She won two individual titles at the 2022 America East championship meet to increase her career conference gold medal count to 17 (includes eight relays).
Metzler holds four UNH individual school records: 200 freestyle, 500 free, 200 backstroke and 400 individual medley.
Olsson is a dual major in business administration: information systems & business analytics and business administration: finance with a perfect 4.00 cumulative GPA. The senior is a four-time National Collegiate All-Academic Ski Team honoree as well as a two-time inductee into Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society.
Olsson capped the 2022 season with a ninth-place finish in the giant slalom at the EISA Championships. During the EISA carnival season, she recorded an 18th-place finish in the slalom at both Colby and Saint Michael's, as well as 18th place in the giant slalom at Middlebury
As a freshman in 2019, Olsson earned All-America Second Team accolades by placing eighth in the giant slalom at the NCAA Skiing Championships.
These Academic All-District At-Large Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for combined performance in athletic competition and the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions, and the districts are divided geographically.
UNH is in NCAA Division I, District 1, which is comprised of all six New England states and New York (thereby including six Ivy League schools). There were 67 men and 63 women on the respective District 1 At-Large ballots.
The 14 sports included on the women's at-large ballot are: beach volleyball, bowling, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, rowing, skiing, swimming & diving, tennis and water polo.
The 12 sports included on the men's at-large ballot are: fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming & diving, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.
