DURHAM, N.H. -- UNH volleyball head coach Christopher Feliciano announced the signing of four student-athletes on Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats have added two libero/defensive specialists in Katherine Kouba (Iowa City, Iowa) and Avery LePore (Franklin, Tenn.), along with outside hitter/defensive specialist Millie Grove (Warrington, Pa.) and right side hitter Colette Barnes (Riverside, Ill.).
Grove, who will be a Biology major in the fall at UNH, was Player of the Year in the conference as she registered over 1,300 kills at Central Buck High School South. She was a two-time First-Team All-Conference selection and was the first volleyball player, male or female, to get 1,000 kills in a career for the Titans. She achieved the milestone on Sept. 21, 2021. She played club volleyball for East Coast Power Volleyball Club and coach Brian McCann.
"Mille is a player who I believe is just starting to touch the surface of her ability" said Feliciano. "She's physical, jumps well and loves to compete."
LePore will major in Engineering at UNH in the fall, she was an All-District, All-District Tournament, All-Region Tournament selection, JVA watch list and was member of the state runner-up in her senior year at Ravenwood High School. She was also a All-District Tournament honoree in her junior season as well.
"In Avery we are getting a great ball control player with a tremendous volleyball IQ," stated Feliciano. "Her work ethic and teammate first mentality will fit right in with our culture."
Barnes, who will major in Environmental Engineering at UNH, is a three-time Metro-Suburban All-Conference selection and as well as a Metro-Suburban All-Academic honoree at Riverside Brookfield High School. Barnes was the first freshman in nine years to make varsity volleyball squad at her high school. She played club volleyball for Adversity Volleyball Club under the guidance of Kyle and Melissa Masterson, qualifying for nationals in her freshman and a junior seasons.Â
"Colette has a tremendous arm and has the potential to become a legit scoring threat in the America East," remarked Feliciano.
Kouba, who will be a Business major at UNH in the fall, played at Iowa City West High School and was a three-time All-Conference selection and two-time captain. In her senior season, she was a First-Team All-Conference selection and All-Conference Academic honoree. Played club volleyball for the Iowa Rockets under the direction of Stacey Ruff and Kyla Rodgers.
"Katherine has a tremendous first touch that will be a welcomed addition to our gym next season," stated Feliciano. "She's extremely coachable and has the desire to improve everyday."
"Every year coaches have a responsibility to improve their team through player development and recruiting," commented Feliciano. "The 13 returning players had a tremendous spring where we saw a tremendous amount of growth, grit, and focus on dynamic relationships. That coupled with a deep and talented 2022 recruiting class we cannot wait to get started."
This group of four student-athletes joins the four early NLI signees that were announced in November to bring the incoming Wildcat freshman class to a total of eight student-athletes, along with outside hitter Meredith Dixon (Fort Lauderale, Fla.), outside hitter Lindsey Kriendler (Houston, Texas), right side hitter Meredith Hohnbaum (Indianapolis, Ind.) and middle blocker Kara Oxenknecht (Naperville, Ill.).
