BOSTON – Sophomore middle blocker Kelly Kaufmann (Raleigh, N.C.) of the University of New Hampshire volleyball team has been selected as the 2021 America East Women's Volleyball Scholar Athlete of the Year, as announced by the conference office on Thursday afternoon.
Kaufmann was honored on the America East All-Conference Second-Team in the fall and was the lone Wildcat named to the America East All-Academic Team for her efforts in the classroom with a 4.0 GPA as a Exercise Science major. Her 186 kills ranked second on UNH's roster, while her 80 total blocks led the Wildcat roster and her .273 hitting percentage was sixth best among America East hitters.
"We are extremely proud of Kelly and all she has accomplished both on and off the court," said UNH head coach Christopher Feliciano. "She is a special player that represents both our volleyball program and UNH at the highest standard."
The Scholar-Athletes were members of teams in the six championship sports which America East sponsored in the fall season including men's and women's cross country, field hockey, men's and women's soccer and volleyball. Nominees were put forward by their institution, which could nominate up to one student-athlete per sport, then voted upon by the conference's Student-Athlete Engagement committee. Kaufman and Wildcat All-American Adam Savill from the men's soccer team were two of the six student-athletes honored from the fall seasons.
Sport Scholar-Athletes are automatically eligible for the America East Female or Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards, which will be announced in July.
America East is proud to have one of most comprehensive academic awards programs in the country, which honors over two-thirds of its student-athletes for their success in the classroom.
