Kara Oxenknecht named America East Rookie of the Year and First Team All-Conference
BOSTON - Freshman middle blocker Kara Oxenknecht (Naperville, Ill.) of the University of New Hampshire volleyball team was named 2022 America East Rookie of the Year and was named to the All-Conference First Team, which was announced by the conference office on Thursday afternoon.
Oxenknecht is the second student-athlete in team history to earn America East Rookie of the Year joining Alyson Coler (2000) and she is just the third player in program history to earn First Team All-Conference honors as a freshman, joining Emily Tanski (2016) and Bonnie Wilson (2001).
Oxenknecht has registered 195 kills on the season, which ranks second on UNH's roster and her 104 total blocks leads the team and ranks 10th all-time on the single-season blocks list in program history. Her .311 hitting percentage ranks fourth in the conference and her 1.07 blocks per set ranks fifth among America East players.
"I am extremely proud of all of the award winners," said UNH head coach Christopher Feliciano. "In volleyball, individual awards are a reflection of the teams efforts towards excellence and working together for a common goal."
Junior outside hitter Hannah Serbousek (Fort Collins, Colo.) was named to the America East All-Conference Second Team, along with earning All-Academic Team honors. Junior middle blocker Kelly Kaufmann (Raleigh, N.C.) joined Serbousek on the America East All-Academic squad. Serbousek owns a 3.62 GPA as an Environmental Conservation and Sustainability major, while Kaufmann has registered a 3.97 GPA as a Exercise Science major.
Serbousek leads the team with 206 kills and her 187 digs in third best on the 'Cats. Her 2.58 kills per set ranks seventh among America East hitters and her 2.34 digs per set is ninth in the league.
Freshman outside Lindsey Kriendler (Houston, Texas) and Oxenknecht were tabbed on the America East All-Rookie Team. Kriendler has posted 187 kills in her rookie season in Durham.
The Wildcats return to action on Saturday, November 19 against top seed and host Binghamton in the America East semifinals. Match time from West Gym is 1 p.m. in Vestal, N.Y. on ESPN+.
