Nick Guadarrama led the 'Cats with team-high 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting in the losing effort
DURHAM, N.H. -- The University of New Hampshire men's basketball team were defeated at Maine, 71-64 in America East play on Monday night at the Cross Insurance Center.
The Wildcats fall to 7-7 overall (2-3 AE), while the Black Bears improve to 4-13 overall (1-5 AE) with the victory. Sophomore guard Marco Foster (Chicago, Ill.) added 17 points and seven rebounds, while senior forward Jayden Martinez (Cibolo, Texas) chipped in with 13 points in the losing effort.
Senior forward Nick Guadarrama (Newington, Conn.) led the Wildcats offensively with 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting, to go along with five rebounds. Guadarrama notched 18 of 20 points in the second half of the game for the 'Cats.
The 'Cats shot just 30% in the opening half, but followed that up with a 47% effort in the second stanza. UNH trailed 32-23 at halftime, led by nine first-half points from Foster and Martinez.
The Wildcats won the rebounding battle at 36-21, as well as having the 24-12 edge in points in the paint.
Maks Klanjscek and Vukasin Masic each totaled a game-high 25 points apiece in the victory for Maine.
UNH finishes off the season series with Maine at home on Wednesday, January 26. Game time from Lundholm Gymnasium is 7 p.m. on ESPN3.
