BOSTON – Graduate student Johann von Knebel (Hamburg, Germany) posted a goal and an assist in his UNH debut, while senior Tola Showunmi (Enfield, England) scored the game winner as the No. 20 University of New Hampshire men's soccer team defeated Boston University, 2-0, in the season opener on Thursday night at Nickerson Field.
Showunmi broke a scoreless tie in the 83rd minute, while von Knebel added to the UNH lead in the 88th minute with his first goal as a Wildcat.
The Wildcats start the season 1-0-0, while the Terriers begin 0-1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Graduate student Paul Mayer (Strasbourg, France) took the first shot on goal of the season for the Wildcats but his shot on a breakaway was saved by Francesco Montali along with the rebound attempt by graduate student Victor Menudier (Limoges, France). Both shots were in the fourth minute.
- The first half went scoreless as UNH outshot BU 5-2, while the Wildcats took three shots on goal and held the Terries to no shots on goal.
- Graduate student Nils Buchwalder (Bochum, Germany) sent a header from eight yards out, but Montali was there for the save in the 52nd minute.
- With the game still tied at 0-0, Showumni scored off a give-and-go from von Knebel as he sent a shot to the lower right side of the net in the 83rd minute (82:42). WATCH GOAL
- Then in the 88th minute (87:08), von Knebel blasted a shot from six yards out to the upper right corner of the net for his first UNH goal and the 2-0 final score. Mayer posted an assist on the goal. WATCH GOAL
